A Novel Plasma Heme Assay Reveals Disease Severity in Beta‐Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anemia
ABSTRACT Anemia results from imbalanced hemoglobin or red blood cell production and clearance. Hemolytic anemia, caused by premature red blood cell removal, can be intravascular (in blood) or extravascular (erythrophagocytosis). Hemolysis is common in Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and Beta‐Thalassemia anemia (β‐thalassemia), the most prevalent inherited ...

Cold Gas Plasma Induces Platelet Activation and Hemostasis in Native and Anticoagulated Human Blood
Cold physical gas plasma induces platelet activation and hemostatic responses in native and anticoagulated human blood. Treatment efficacy depends on plasma parameters, including gas composition, distance, and exposure mode, which govern reactive species delivery and energy transfer.

Study antioxidant activity in Thalassemia Iraqi patients [PDF]
The aims of this study was to estimate the total antioxidant activity level in serum among the Thalassemia Iraq patients. We estimated total free radical scavenging activity in the120 serum of Thalassemic patients their age range from 2-27years. The DPPH

Nitroxyl Accelerates the Oxidation of Oxyhemoglobin by Nitrite [PDF]
Angeli's salt (Na₂N₂O₃) decomposes into nitroxyl (HNO) and nitrite (NO₂(-)), compounds of physiological and therapeutic interest for their impact on biological signaling both through nitric oxide and nitric oxide independent pathways. Both nitrite and HNO oxidize oxygenated hemoglobin to methemoglobin.

After collecting Musa paradisiaca leaves, some were dried and others were used to produce aqueous extracts. The extracts and powders were characterized and then administered to rats made anaemic by PHZ. After 14 days of administration of the two samples, the rats were euthanized and it was observed that after 9 days of treatment, the aqueous extract ...

ABSTRACT Metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are comorbid conditions that synergistically increase cardiovascular risk through systemic inflammation and insulin resistance. While continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the standard treatment for OSA, its efficacy in improving hepatic ...

Modified Sleep Apnea Severity Index and Cardiovascular Risk in CPAP‐Intolerant OSA Patients
The modified sleep apnea severity index (mSASI) combines patient anatomy, weight, sleep study metrics, and symptoms into a composite OSA index ranging from 1 (least severe) to 3 (most severe). Our study found that mSASI correlated better with baseline cardiovascular risk measured by the 5‐year Framingham Risk Score compared to the AHI.
