Computational Modeling of Sequential Dependencies in Mother–Child Social Interaction and Associations to Empathic Responses

open access: yesDevelopmental Science, Volume 29, Issue 4, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Understanding how early mother–child interactions are linked to children's social‐cognitive processes requires methods capable of capturing the temporal structure of naturalistic behavior. This study introduces a computational framework based on Bayesian Network modeling to identify sequential dependencies among nonverbal behaviors (smiles ...

Effect of Malocclusion on Response to Hypoglossal Nerve Stimulation for Obstructive Sleep Apnea

open access: yesLaryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology, Volume 11, Issue 3, June 2026.
As hypoglossal nerve stimulation grows in popularity, it is of high importance to continue to follow outcomes in an effort to further identify factors that impact treatment success. In this study, we found that malocclusion was associated with lower rates of success with hypoglossal nerve stimulation.

Tertiary conformational transition in sheep hemoglobins induced by reaction with 5,5´-dithiobis(2-nitrobenzoate) and by binding of inositol hexakisphosphate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We have determined the second-order reverse rate constant, kR, for the reaction of 5,5´-dithiobis(2- nitrobenzoate) – DTNB – with sheep hemoglobins as a function of pH from values of the second-order forward rate constant, kF, and the equilibrium ...

Influence of Obstructive Sleep Apnea on Maternal and Perinatal Outcomes in Patients With Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 35, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) increases during pregnancy and is associated with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), although its clinical impact on birth outcomes remains unclear. We aimed to assess the effect of several OSA criteria and intermittent hypoxia in the third trimester on perinatal outcomes in women with GDM.

A Comprehensive Review of Traditional and Machine Learning‐Assisted Diffuse Optical Spectroscopy and Imaging Techniques for Dermatological Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 7, Issue 5, May 2026.
This review critically examines clinical studies on both conventional and machine learning (ML)‐integrated diffuse optical spectroscopy and imaging methods for dermatological applications, with a primary focus on the past decade and inclusion of earlier foundational work where appropriate.

Impact of High‐Definition Cathodal tDCS Preconditioning on Enhancing the Therapeutic Efficacy of iTBS Combined With FES for Improving Walking Function in Patients With Spinal Cord Injury: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 5, May 2026.
This study was divided into two groups: The treatment group, which received HD C‐tDCS combined with iTBS, FES, and conventional therapy, and the control group, which received sham HD C‐tDCS along with identical iTBS, FES, and conventional therapy. Interventions were administered once daily, five days per week, over a four‐week period.

Lipofuscin: The Missing Link in the Worsening of Obstructive Sleep Apnea

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 136, Issue 5, Page 2362-2369, May 2026.
Lipofuscin, also known as the age pigment, is a permanent autofluorescent intracellular deposit that accumulates with aging or oxidative stress, thereby interfering with cellular function. This study revealed significantly larger deposits of lipofuscin in the lateral pharyngeal wall muscles of patients with severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) compared

Mechanistic Insights Into Nitric Oxide Capture and Release in a Radical‐Scavenging Zinc Ascorbate Metal–Organic Framework

open access: yesSmall Science, Volume 6, Issue 5, May 2026.
A zinc–ascorbate MOF (bioNICS‐1) enables tuneable nitric oxide (NO) capture and humidity‐triggered release through defect engineering and structural modulation. Organic acid treatment enhances binding site accessibility and retention strength.
