Labour epidural analgesia and early childhood behavioural outcomes: the moderating role of maternal mental health and pro‐inflammatory cytokines

open access: yesAnaesthesia, EarlyView.
Summary Introduction Labour epidural analgesia is the most effective method for intrapartum pain relief and is associated with improved maternal outcomes. However, concerns have been raised regarding potential associations between labour epidural analgesia and adverse psycho‐emotional outcomes in children. Evidence from large epidemiological studies is

Exposure to anesthesia during delivery and risk of autism spectrum disorder: A retrospective cohort study

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
Cesarean delivery with general anesthesia was associated with a modestly increased risk of autism in offspring compared to vaginal delivery while cesarean delivery with neuraxial anesthesia was not. Similar findings were seen across different surgery types and ethnic groups, suggesting that general anesthesia may be relevant to autism risk.

Prophylactic carbetocin versus oxytocin following vaginal delivery among women with high risk for postpartum hemorrhage: A before‐and‐after study

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
Prophylactic carbetocin was associated with a similar rate of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) after vaginal delivery in high‐risk women, compared with oxytocin, as well as a significantly lower need for additional second‐line uterotonic drugs to manage persistent PPH.

Contraction frequency and acidemia at birth: A case–control study

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
This case–control study shows an association by exposure level between contraction frequency during the final hour before birth and fetal acidemia. Effect sizes are similar regardless of oxytocin use. Contraction frequencies above both the conventional and revised thresholds are common, indicating poor positive predictive value.

The Impact of Midwife Experience and Time of Birth on the Risk of Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injuries (OASIS)

open access: yesBirth, EarlyView.
Background: Obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIS) are a significant complication of vaginal birth. Methods: This retrospective cohort included 13,651 term spontaneous vaginal deliveries at a single medical center (2020‐2025). Midwife experience (early, mid, and highly experienced), shift timing, and OASIS incidence were analyzed.

Oxytocin Protects Nigrostriatal Dopamine Signal via Activating GABAergic Circuit in the MPTP‐Induced Parkinson's Disease Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science
The most pronounced neuropathological feature of Parkinson's disease (PD) is the loss of dopamine (DA) neurons in the substantia nigra compacta (SNc), which depletes striatal DA.

Decision‐Making and Knowledge Around Inductions of Labor: A Survey Study in Ireland

open access: yesBirth, EarlyView.
This study explored women's experiences of decision‐making and knowledge of inductions of labor (IOL) in Ireland. Using a national online survey of 1091 respondents who gave birth between 2018 and 2023, the research reveals substantial gaps in informed consent and autonomy.
