Cefepime-Induced Encephalopathy in a Patient With Uncompromised Renal Function: A Case Report

open access: yesCase Reports in Infectious Diseases
Cefepime, a fourth-generation cephalosporin, is widely used in the treatment of infections caused by resistant Gram-negative bacteria especially Pseudomonas aeruginosa, or in severe infections, septic shock, and infections in immunocompromised patients ...

Water Permeates and Plasticizes Amorphous Carbon Dots: Unraveling the Inner Accessibility of the Nanoparticles by Glass Transition Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The water permeability of amorphous carbon dots (CDs) is demonstrated by investigating their plasticization. Novel polyamide‐based and amorphous nanoparticles are synthesized by controlling their inner packing density. Water plasticization is evidenced by the decrease of the CDs glass transition temperature with increasing the hydration degree.

Bayesian analysis of daily maximum ozone levels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Ground level ozone is one of the six criteria primary pollutants that is monitored by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Statistical methods are increasingly being used to model ground level ozone concentration data.

The impact of the mixing properties within the Antarctic stratospheric vortex on ozone loss in spring [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Calculations of equivalent length from an artificial advected tracer provide new insight into the isentropic transport processes occurring within the Antarctic stratospheric vortex. These calculations show two distinct regions of approximately equal area:

Research progress on the role and mechanism of circadian clock gene PER1 in the occurrence and development of multiple diseases

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
Circadian rhythm, an inherent 24-hour periodic rhythm in organisms, is regulated by circadian clock genes. As a key component of the transcription-translation feedback loop, the core circadian gene period (PER) 1, not only maintains circadian rhythm ...

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

Response Surface Methodology Applied to Ozone Generation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this work, a strategy is presented to optimize the ozone generation by response surface methodology. A dielectric barrier discharge ozone generator was developed in which it is possible to control electrical current frequency and gas flow entering the

Intercomparison of Ground- and Satellite-Based Total Ozone Data Products at Marambio Base, Antarctic Peninsula Region

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2019
This study aims to compare the ground-based Brewer spectrophotometer total ozone column measurements with the Dobson spectrophotometer and various satellite overpass data available at Marambio Base during the period 2011−2013. This station provides

Aircraft observations since the 1990s reveal increases of tropospheric ozone at multiple locations across the Northern Hemisphere

open access: yesScience Advances, 2020
Recent aircraft observations show that tropospheric ozone increased above many Northern Hemisphere regions since the mid-1990s. Tropospheric ozone is an important greenhouse gas, is detrimental to human health and crop and ecosystem productivity, and ...
