A Novel Approach to CAFO Odor Assessment: Odorant Field Collection by Sorbent Tube / Thermal Reconstitution in the Laboratory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Historically, odor emission monitoring of high density livestock operations has been limited to direct, whole-air assessment utilizing remote site sampling by plastic bags, human sensory panelists and dynamic dilution olfactometry.

Ocean acidification at the crossroads I: Harmonizing unpurified and purified meta‐cresol purple spectrophotometric pHT measurements based on absorbance data

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Consistent monitoring of seawater spectrophotometric pH on the total hydrogen ion scale (pHT) has been questioned by an evolving method, with changes in parameterization and the purity of the meta‐cresol purple (mCP). Using real seawater samples, we demonstrate that spectrophotometric pHT measurements obtained with unpurified (UNPUR) and ...

Adsorption of p-cresol on novel diatomite/carbon composites [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Hazardous Materials, 2011
Hybrid inorganic/organic adsorbents were synthesized using mixtures of diatomite and carbon charcoal as precursors, and explored for the removal of p-cresol from aqueous solution. The carbon/diatomite composites displayed a bimodal and interconnected porous structure which was partially inherited from both precursors.

Redox‐Active and Electrochromic Aromatic Poly(Ether‐Imide)s With Carbazole‐Triphenylamine Chromophores

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
A novel ether‐bridged dianhydride monomer based on a carbazole‐triphenylamine (CzTPA) unit has been successfully synthesized, resulting in the development of electroactive and electrochromic poly(ether imide)s that incorporate CzTPA chromophores within the polymer chain.

Preparation of rhamnolipid-layered double hydroxide nanocomposite for removing -cresol from water

open access: yesAdsorption Science & Technology, 2018
Rhamnolipid (RL)-modified Mg 3 Al-layered double hydroxide (LDH) was prepared as p -cresol adsorbent by ion exchange (RL-LDH1) and delamination/reassembling (RL-LDH2) method, respectively.

Characterisation of FAD-family folds using a machine learning approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) and its derivatives play a crucial role in biological processes. They are major organic cofactors and electron carriers in both enzymatic activities and biochemical pathways. We have analysed the relationships between

Esterification of dicarboxylic acids to diesters over Mn+-montmoril lonite clay catalysts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Esterification of dicarboxylic acids with various alcohols and phenols in presence of metal exchanged montmorillonite clay catalyst (Mn+-mont; Mnþ ¼ Al3þ, Fe3+, Cr3+, Zn2+, Mn2+, and Ni2+) is studied.

Development of a Novel Polyleucine‐Based Immunopotentiator for Subunit Vaccines Against Group A Streptococcus

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Self‐assembling amphiphilic peptide L15K6 is used as a novel immunoadjuvant for the development of a Group A Streptococcus vaccine. Robust antigen‐specific IgG responses are generated and manage to kill isolated strains of Group A Streptococcus. Cellular and bulk RNA sequencing data reveals that L15K6 regulates immune responses potentially through TLR ...

Anaerobic oxidation of p-cresol by a denitrifying bacterium [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1986
Metabolism of p-cresol (pCr) under nitrate-reducing conditions is mediated by the denitrifying bacterial isolate PC-07. The methyl substituent of the substrate is oxidized anaerobically by whole-cell suspensions of PC-07 through a series of dehydrogenation and hydration reactions to yield p-hydroxybenzoate (pOHB) in stoichiometric proportions.
