Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Optimizing amino acid substitution matrices with a local alignment kernel

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2006
Background Detecting remote homologies by direct comparison of protein sequences remains a challenging task. We had previously developed a similarity score between sequences, called a local alignment kernel, that exhibits good performance for this task ...

The Influence of Matrix Size on Statistical Properties of Co-Occurrence and Limiting Similarity Null Models. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Null models exploring species co-occurrence and trait-based limiting similarity are increasingly used to explore the influence of competition on community assembly; however, assessments of common models have not thoroughly explored the influence of ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Spin Characters' Decomposition Matrices of S27, S28modulo, p=13

open access: yesIbn Al-Haitham Journal for Pure and Applied Sciences
In this study, when the field characteristic is 13, we calculate decomposition matrices for the spin characters   and   which are broken down into blocks, where the decomposition matrices are connected between irreducible spin characters and irreducible

The spectrum of quantum-group-invariant transfer matrices

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 2019
Integrable open quantum spin-chain transfer matrices constructed from trigonometric R-matrices associated to affine Lie algebras gˆ, and from certain K-matrices (reflection matrices) depending on a discrete parameter p, were recently considered in arXiv ...

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Sign determinancy in LU factorization of P-matrices

open access: yesLinear Algebra and its Applications, 1995
The authors consider the sign inheritance problem for the \(LU\) factorization of \(P\)-matrices, that is, \(\text{sgn}(u_{ij})= \text{sgn}(a_{ij})\) for a given pair \(i\leq j\), or for all such pairs. An \(n\times n\) array \(B\) is a sign pattern (matrix) if each entry of \(B\) is \(+\), \(-\) or 0.

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.
