Molecular Transformation of Bacteria at High P-T Conditions

2013
Analysis of the solvent insoluble residue of a cyanobacterium (Oscillatoria sp.) subjected to simulated diagenesis under hydrothermal conditions (350 and 260 °C and hydrostatic pressure of 700 atmospheres) affords a macromolecule with significant aliphatic content that is similar to that found in hydrogen rich kerogen.

Molecular Transformation of Plant Biopolymers in High P-T Conditions

2013
Experimental heating of plant tissues (350 °C, 700 bars) generated a resistant non-hydrolysable aliphatic macromolecule similar to that comprising organic matter in ancient sediments and fossil leaves. Comparison of the products derived from such heating of different pre-treated plant tissues clearly demonstrates that solvent-extractable and ...

Prediction of pH in natural hydrothermal fluids at elevated P–T conditions

Chemical Geology, 1998
Abstract The pH of fluids at elevated temperature–pressure conditions are routinely calculated from fluid compositions measured in the laboratory. Numerical errors, uncertainties in thermodynamic data, and analytical errors can affect these computed values.

Pargasite at extreme conditions: a comprehensive P-T study

2017
Pargasite is a Ca-amphibole associated to medium- or high-pressure/high-temperature conditions. The occurrence of hydroxyl groups into the amphibole’s structure has proved to be a significant agent in the water cycle within the upper mantle (e.g., Gill 1981). In order to better understand the water cycle in the upper and potentially lower mantle, it is

Metal-Hydrogen System Under Extended p, T Conditions

1993
The preceding chapters have dealt with the properties of hydrogen in metals or metal hydrides under ordinary conditions of p, T. In this chapter, we try to extend the range of our discussion and treat binary M-H systems over the entire composition range, including elemental hydrogen, over much wider ranges of p, T.

Measurements of acoustic wave velocities at P-T conditions of the Earth's mantle

1998
A method is being developed to determine acoustic wave velocities in polycrystalline samples at pressures and temperatures of the Earth's mantle using an MA-8 multianvil apparatus. Ultrasonic sound waves, generated by a LiNbO 3 transducer, are transmitted through one of the eight tungsten carbide anvils and a platinum buffer rod to the sample which is

Determining the pressure-temperature-composition (P-T-X) conditions of magma storage

Determining the pressures and temperatures at which melts are stored in the crust and upper mantle, and the major element composition, redox state and volatile contents of these melts, is vital to constrain the structure and dynamics of magmatic plumbing systems.
