The P wave velocity structure near the base of the mantle
Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 1985Travel times from 16 events recorded at two temporary networks of short‐period seismometers deployed across Australia have been used to study the P wave velocity structure of the mantle below depths of 1700 km. The slowness‐distance curve derived from these times shows small deviations from the slownesses predicted from the preliminary reference earth ...

The Effect of Rock Sample Dimension on the P-Wave Velocity
Journal of Nondestructive Evaluation, 2011P-wave velocity is one of the non-destructive geophysical methods directly or indirectly used by engineering working by various filed. Thus the accuracy of the recorded P-wave velocity affects these parameters. In this survey whether the sample dimensions measured in laboratory have effect on P-wave velocity or not was investigated. Nine different rock

Calculations of upper-mantle P-wave velocity anisotropies
Tectonophysics, 1979Abstract Discovery of anisotropy for upper-mantle P-wave velocities has resulted recently in many laboratory determinations of velocities for natural mantle material, either by direct measurement on rock samples or through calculations based on single-crystal elastic constants, fabrics and modal compositions Comparison of field and laboratory data ...

Anisotropic parameters and P-wave velocity for orthorhombic media
Geophysics, 1997Abstract Although orthorhombic (or orthotropic) symmetry is believed to be common for fractured reservoirs, the difficulties in dealing with nine independent elastic constants have precluded this model from being used in seismology.

Effect of crack aperture on P-wave velocity and dispersion
Applied Geophysics, 2013We experimentally studied the effect of crack aperture on P-wave velocity, amplitude, anisotropy and dispersion. Experimental models were constructed based on Hudson’s theory. Six crack models were embedded with equal-radius penny-shaped crack inclusions in each layer.

Estimation of P-wave velocities for unsaturated geo-materials
2013Using P-wave velocity as a proxy for degree of saturation is useful in many applications. The effect of saturation on P-wave velocity of geo-materials has been frequently modeled using Biot-Gassmann equation. However Biot-Gassmann equation is not able to fully account for the effect of partial saturation.

Measurements of mantle velocities of P waves with a large array
1966A large array has been used to investigate the P-wave velocity structure of the lower mantle. Linear array processing methods are reviewed and a method of nonlinear processing is presented. Phase velocities, travel times, and relative amplitudes of P waves have been measured with the large array at the Tonto Forest Seismological Observatory in Arizona ...
