P-y Curves of laterally loaded barrettes

Innovative Infrastructure Solutions, 2021
Rectangular shaped piles (barrettes) are extensively used in construction projects to resist relatively high lateral loads in different onshore and offshore facilities. The need to analyze barrettes subjected to lateral loads is one of the challenges in the field of deep foundations. P-y curves and finite element method are widely trusted approaches to

Experimental p-y curves for liquefied soils from centrifuge tests

Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration, 2021
The present study aims to obtain p-y curves (Winkler spring properties for lateral pile-soil interaction) for liquefied soil from 12 comprehensive centrifuge test cases where pile groups were embedded in liquefiable soil. The p-y curve for fully liquefied soil is back-calculated from the dynamic centrifuge test data using a numerical procedure from the

Re-Examination Of P-Y Curve Formulations

Offshore Technology Conference, 1979
ABSTRACT In the analysis of piles supporting offshore structures, the key element in predicting the response to lateral loads is the determination of the appropriate lateral load - deformation relationships (p-y curves) for the soil.

P-Y curves for laterally loaded single piles: Numerical validation

Marine Georesources & Geotechnology, 2021
Pile foundations are widely used in marine and coastal engineering structures. The correct analysis method must be used to ensure the safety of piled systems used in marine and coastal structures. Despite several methods available in the literature, the numerical method is increasingly applied for understanding the loading mechanism of pile-soil ...

Determination of Multidirectional p-y Curves for Soft Clays

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2005
Abstract The evaluation of performance of soil-pile-structure systems under seismic loading is one of the most complex problems in earthquake engineering. In the most common methodology, force-displacement curves are used to describe the nonlinear response of discrete soil springs connecting the piles to the “free-field” soil column ...

P–Y Curves for Piles Under Seismic Lateral Loads

Geotechnical & Geological Engineering, 1998
This paper describes an experimentally based procedure for building dynamic P–Y curves for clays from the Campeche sound in the Gulf of Mexico and for Mexico City clays. Cyclic triaxial and resonant column tests were used to derive hyperbolic stiffness–strain and damping–strain functions that depend on soil plasticity and on relative consistency.

Cyclic p-y Curves in Clays for Offshore Structures

Offshore Technology Conference, 2019
Abstract Pile foundations supporting offshore structures are typically subjected to lateral cyclic loading. In design, the pile response under peak design load is generally estimated using a beam-column model where soil-structure interaction is simulated with a series of uncoupled non-linearly force-displacement springs (p-y curves ...

Cyclic P-Y Curves for a Pile in Cohesive Soil

Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering and Soil Dynamics IV, 2008
A lateral load test was performed on a full-scale steel pipe pile installed in a soil profile consisting of cohesive, fine-grained soils with occasional sand layers. The pile was loaded in nine increments from 0 to 89 mm of displacement, with 15 loading cycles applied for each increment.

Dynamic P-Y Curves for Dry Sand from Centrifuge Tests

Journal of Earthquake Engineering, 2013
In this article, the simplified dynamic p-y backbone curve was suggested through a series of dynamic centrifuge tests. The centrifuge tests were carried out for a single pile in dry sand, while changing the conditions such as pile diameters, relative densities, input acceleration amplitudes and frequencies.
