Chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium malariae in south Sumatra, Indonesia
Oral chloroquine is the treatment of choice for uncomplicated Plasmodium malariae infections worldwide. We did a prospective 28-day in-vivo assessment of the efficacy of chloroquine for treatment of P malariae on Legundi Island in Lampung Bay, Sumatra ...

The Anaemia of P. falciparum Malaria
British Journal of Haematology, 1980Summary.The haematological changes in a group of young Gambian children with P. falciparum malaria have been analysed. In children with acute infection anaemia was most marked during the period after treatment. Although many of these patients developed a positive direct Coombs test during this period of the illness it is not clear whether the anaemia ...

Malaria (P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. malariae, P. ovale)
2010In Australia, all four human Plasmodium species are routinely detected, with cases typically arising in migrants, travellers, soldiers, and refugees [2]. Traditionally, light microscopy has been utilized in Plasmodium species detection; however, the last decade has seen the introduction of nucleic acid amplification-based diagnostic assays [5 ...

A series of monoclonal antibodies was produced against sporozoites of the OS strain of Plasmodium inui, a simian quartan malaria parasite, and used to characterize the circumsporozoite protein of this parasite. The results confirm that the immunodominant epitope of the circumsporozoite protein of P.

P. vivax malaria complicated by shock and ARDS
Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2007We report a case of Plasmodium vivax malaria complicated by shock and ARDS. The patient responded to oral chloroquine and primaquine and PCR was positive for P. vivax DNA and negative for P. falciparum DNA. P. vivax may cause severe complications and where the possibility of mixed infections exists, blood should be sent for PCR analysis so that mixed ...

Methotrexate Therapy for P vivax Malaria
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1971To the Editor.— The recent article by Sheehy and Dempsey on "Methotrexate Therapy for Plasmodium vivax Malaria" ( 214: 109-114, 1970) contains statements concerning our present knowledge of the actions of folic acid antagonists in malaria which are deficient in content and misleading.

The direct antiglobulin test in P. falciparum malaria
British Journal of Haematology, 1982Summary.The direct antiglobulin test (DAT) was performed on 134 Gambian children with P. falciparum malaria. 52 children had a positive DAT and in 25 this was due to the adherence of C3 to their red cells whilst 13 had sensitization with IgG as well as C3. Sensitization with C4 alone or associated with IgG and/or C3 was only rarely found.

CT findings of malaria infection: P. vivax malaria
2010Purpose: Introduction Malaria is a serious vector-borne infectious disease that is caused by a microscopic parasite which infects red blood cells. There are four kinds of malaria parasites that can infect humans: Plasmodium falciparum , P.

Mefloquine (WR 142-490, RO 21.5998), and antimalarial 4-quinoleine-methanol, active on multiresistant strains of P. falciparum is a resourceful product because of its pharmacocinetics and the possibility it opens of a single day curative therapy. Its mean half-live is 15 days, with important individual variations from 8 to 23 days as well as racial one

The species-specific nested-PCR previously described by Snounou and others for detecting the four parasite species that cause human malaria is evaluated in the current study testing 230 blood samples. The results are compared with those obtained by microscopy and, for 101 samples out of 230, with those previously obtained by a genus-specific PCR based ...
