Conscious Tactile Perception Depends on Early Processing in Primary Somatosensory Cortex

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 63, Issue 10, May 2026.
Single‐pulse TMS over the contralateral primary somatosensory cortex (S1) impaired tactile sensitivity at early (25 and 75 ms), but not late (130 ms) latencies following electrotactile stimulation of the finger at the sensory detection threshold, demonstrating a temporally constrained role of S1 in conscious detection. TMS did not have any interference

Visual and brainstem auditory evoked potentials in obese and overweight individuals

open access: yesNational Journal of Physiology, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, 2017
Background: Overweight and obesity are known to be associated with major health risks. Their detrimental effects on central nervous system (CNS) have begun to be appreciated too.

Engineered GM1 Intersects Between Mitochondrial and Synaptic Pathways to Ameliorate ALS Pathology

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 20, 9 April 2026.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease driven by genetic and molecular disruptions affecting energy balance, protein homeostasis, and stress responses in nerve cells. Studies using human and rodent models identified convergent defects in mitochondria and synaptic function.

Changes in Intrinsic Activity of the Primary Somatosensory Cortex Causally Explain Differences in Emotion Perception in Autism

open access: yesAutism Research, Volume 19, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is characterized by certain difficulties in emotion‐related processing. Recent research using electroencephalography (EEG) to measure somatosensory evoked potentials during emotion perception has shown reduced embodiment of emotional expressions in autistic compared to neurotypical individuals, independently from

Association between retinal and cortical visual electrophysiological impairments in schizophrenia

open access: yes, 2023
International audienceBackground: Electrophysiological impairments in the magnocellular visual system have been reported among patients with schizophrenia, but previous theories proposed that these deficits may begin in the retina. We therefore sought to

MPI‐Based Approaches to Overlap Computation and I/O in Geophysical Simulations

open access: yesConcurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience, Volume 38, Issue 7, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Geophysical simulations, such as wave propagation, are often constrained by I/O bottlenecks, where a significant portion of the execution time is spent writing data to disk. This process frequently leaves expensive computational resources, such as GPUs, idle, directly impacting both performance and energy consumption.

Post‐COVID‐19 Area Postrema Syndrome With SARS‐CoV‐2 in CSF: A Dual‐Case Report and Review of the Literature

open access: yesImmunity, Inflammation and Disease, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2026.
This dual‐case report describes two patients with post‐COVID‐19 area postrema syndrome whose outcomes were dictated by their AQP4‐IgG serostatus, despite both having SARS‐CoV‐2 detected in their CSF. The stark contrast between the seronegative patient's recovery and the seropositive patient's fatal relapse highlights antibody testing as an urgent and ...

Is the prolongation latency of visual evoked potentials a pathological sign in children with Down’s syndrome without ocular abnormalities? Case–control study of children with Down’s syndrome

open access: yes, 2023
Objective To evaluate retino-cortical function in children with Down’s syndrome (DS) and no evident ocular abnormalities beyond mild refractive error, by recording visual evoked potentials (VEP) in response to pattern-reversal stimuli and comparing to ...
