P3 Flap: Technique for Fingertip Reconstruction

open access: yesPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Global Open, 2023
Summary:. Fingertip amputations represent an important spectrum of injuries, and most are avulsions or crush trauma. There is no consensus about one single standard treatment, and a wide number of techniques are available. The authors present the P3 flap

Predictive and prognostic biomarkers of Bacillus Calmette‐Guérin therapy failure in bladder cancer patients: A systematic review

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
High‐risk bladder cancer is typically treated with Bacillus Calmette‐Guérin (BCG), but 30–40% of patients relapse. No FDA‐ or CE‐approved biomarkers currently predict or prognosticate BCG failure. We systematically reviewed the literature and identified 72 eligible studies, revealing several promising biomarkers associated with BCG treatment response ...

It takes two to tango: Preserving daptomycin efficacy against daptomycin-resistant MRSA using daptomycin-phage co-therapy

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Daptomycin (DAP) is a cyclic lipopeptide antibiotic that targets the cell membrane and is commonly used for the treatment of multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections, especially methicillin-resistant strains (MRSA).

Nothing as Practical as a Good Theory? The Theoretical Basis of HIV Prevention Interventions for Young People in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Systematic Review

open access: yesAIDS Research and Treatment, 2012
This paper assesses the extent to which HIV prevention interventions for young people in sub-Saharan Africa are grounded in theory and if theory-based interventions are more effective.

Identification and characterisation of calcitonin receptor isoforms expressed in glioblastoma derived glioma stem and U‐87 MG cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Glioblastoma cells express calcitonin receptor variants (CT receptor isoforms) that may help them survive stress. Using qPCR, transcript‐specific long‐read nanopore sequencing, immunofluorescence co‐localisation and comparative sequence analysis, this study identifies a novel alternatively spliced CALCR transcript that encodes the CTb receptor isoform ...

Receptor-Triggered Peptide Self-Assembly Enables Multivalent Recruitment of Endogenous Antibodies for Cancer Immunotherapy. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
Receptor‐triggered supramolecular self‐assembly converts monovalent antibody‐recruiting molecules into multivalent platforms directly on cancer cell membranes. The resulting fibrillar assemblies present clustered haptens that efficiently recruit endogenous antibodies, enabling selective complement‐mediated immune killing of EGFR‐positive cancer cells ...

In vitro generation of regulatory T cells: A challenging tool for studying immune aging in humans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In vitro induction of human regulatory T cells using standard protocols generates suppressive, Foxp3‐expressing CD4+ T cells independently of TGF‐β supplementation and donor age. Regulatory T (Treg) cells play a key role in immune tolerance and homeostasis.

Determinants of undergraduate bioscience engagement: Validating attendance barriers and classroom spatial behaviour across institutions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Student engagement extends beyond simple attendance. Across 891 bioscience students from three universities, attendance behaviour was associated mainly with structural influences, whereas classroom spatial behaviour reflected affective and sensory factors.
