Analysis of creep in a welded ‘P91’ pressure vessel
International Journal of Pressure Vessels and Piping, 1994Abstract The present work considers the uniaxial and multiaxial creep behaviour of the tempered martensite 9%Cr 1%Mo steel ‘P91’ and the creep behaviour of welds in a P91 pressure vessel. The microstructure of a base metal/weld metal transition in a thick section pipe was analysed by means of optical microscopy and hardness measurements.

Microstructure evolution and hardness were evaluated at the interface of two friction-welded transition joints between P91 and AISI 304 fabricated applying Inconel interlayers, viz. single-interlayer weld (P91/IN600/AISI304) and three-interlayer weld (P91/IN625/IN600/IN800H/AISI304).
