A 3-year PACS project was started in 1997 and completed in 1999 with filmless radiology and surgery. An efficient network for transferring images provides the infrastructure for integration of different distributed imaging systems and enables efficient handling of all patient-related information on one display station.

1991This paper gives a brief overview of PACS and PACS-related research in Belgium. Three institutes are active in this field: KUL-UCL and VUB / PRIMS. At the University of Leuven (KUL) the PACS project’s main application is to support research activities in acquisition techniques and image processing methods. One paper covers this item [1].
