PACAP and VIP inhibit pyloric muscle through VIP/PACAP-preferring receptors
Regulatory Peptides, 1997Pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP) is a neuropeptide with structural homology to vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP). Two receptor types for PACAP have been described: PACAP preferring receptors are selective for PACAP; whereas VIP/PACAP preferring receptors have similar affinity for both PACAP and VIP.

PACAP—A Multifacetted Neuropeptide
Chronobiology International, 2006Pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP) was originally isolated from ovine hypothalamus based on its ability to stimulate cAMP production in pituitary cell cultures. The peptide exists in two forms, both of which are derived from the same precursor.

Characterization of murine PACAP mRNA
Peptides, 1995A murine PACAP precursor cDNA was isolated by screening a brain cDNA library. The amino acid sequence of the precursor was highly similar (from 81% to 93% similarity) to its rat, human, and ovine counterparts. The primary structure of murine PACAP is identical with those from sheep, humans, and rats, indicating that the mature PACAP is well conserved ...

PACAP in Immunity and Inflammation
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2003Abstract:The pituitary adenylate cyclase‐activating polypeptide (PACAP) is a neuropeptide belonging to the VIP/secretin/glucagon family of peptides, produced by the lymphoid cells, which exerts a wide spectrum of immunological functions controlling the homeostasis of immune system through different receptors expressed in various immunocompetent cells ...

Rat Corpus Luteum Expresses Both PACAP and PACAP Type IA Receptor mRNAs
Peptides, 1997Both pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) and PACAP type I receptor gene expressions were detected in the corpus luteum of pregnant mare's serum gonadotropin (PMSG)-human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG)-treated immature rats using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).

PACAP (6–38) is a PACAP receptor antagonist for breast cancer cells
Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, 1999The effects of pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP) analogs were investigated using breast cancer cells. 125I-PACAP-27 bound with high affinity (Kd = 5 nM) to T47D cells (Bmax = 29,000 per cell). Specific 125I-PACAP-27 binding was inhibited half maximally by PACAP-27, PACAP-38, PACAP(6-38) and PACAP(28-38) with IC50) values of 8 ...

Depression represents an important global public health concern. It is a complex phenomenon characterized by multifarious etiology and many clinical subtypes. Recent studies show that neuropeptides acting as neurotransmitters and neuromodulators may be involved in the etiology of depression. Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) is

The ADCYAP1 gene, which is expressed in certain cancer cells, encodes for pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP). The translated protein products for the ADCYAP1 gene include prepro PACAP (176 amino acids) as well as the biologically active PACAP-27 or PACAP-38.

PACAP receptors have been identified in different tissues (Lam et al, 1990; Cauvin et al, 1991; Gottschall et al, 1991; Shivers et al, 1991; Tatsuno et al, 1991; Masuo et al, 1992) and three different types have been cloned (Harmar et al, 1998). One type is the specific PACAP receptor (PAC1-R, previously called the type I PACAP receptor or PVR1), which

PACAP in the Reproductive System
2016The production of a mature oocyte that is capable of being fertilized and undergoing embryo development is the major function of the female reproductive system. This process depends on the close association between germ cells and somatic cells, i.e., granulosa and theca cells.
