Abstract Estuary dependence to the survival of Chinook salmon was investigated at the Campbell River estuary, British Columbia, Canada. Replicate batches of marked smolts were transferred from a hatchery and released in 1983, 1984 and 1985 at four ecosystems, two that ensured estuarine experience (river, estuary) and two seawards of the estuary ...

Sea levels generally oscillate with multi-decadal periodicities worldwide with up to the quasi-60 years detected in many tide gauges. Nevertheless, the most part of the literature on sea levels computes apparent rates of rise of sea levels much larger ...

Orchid genome evolution and trait innovation
Orchids became one of the world's most diverse plant groups through genome‐driven innovations, unique relationships with fungi and pollinators, and remarkable adaptability. This review explains the origins of orchids and the evolution of their distinctive life forms, flowers, and ecological strategies and highlights promising directions for future ...

Variations in the Pacific Decadal Oscillation over the past millennium
Hydrologically sensitive tree‐ring chronologies from Pinus flexilis in California and Alberta were used to produce an AD 993–1996 reconstruction of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) and to assess long‐term variability in the PDO's strength and periodicity.

The hunger artist and academic migration: On political depression and relational poverty
Abstract This autoethnography presents fragments of an invisible life, an ordinary body navigating the terrain of ‘academic migration’ (2009–2025), from rejection as a PhD applicant to recognition as a high‐achieving graduate. Provoked by my recent pursuit of Fulbright Postdoctoral Award in the United States, I draw on Kafka's figure of the hunger ...

Climate change-induced amplification of extreme temperatures in large lakes
Lake surface temperature extremes have shifted over recent decades, leading to significant ecological and economic impacts. Here, we employed a hydrodynamic-ice model, driven by climate data, to reconstruct over 80 years of lake surface temperature data ...

Simulated Response of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation to Climate Change
Abstract The impact of climate change on the Pacific decadal oscillation (PDO) is studied using a fully coupled climate model. The model results show that the PDO has a similar spatial pattern in altered climates, but its amplitude and time scale of variability change in response to global warming or cooling.

Summer snow extent heralding of the winter North Atlantic Oscillation
[1] Winter climate over the North Atlantic and European sector is modulated by the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO). We find that the summer extent of snow cover over northern North America and northern Eurasia is linked significantly (p < 0.01) to the ...
