Benthic assemblages associated with native and non-native oysters are similar [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Invasive species can impact native species and alter assemblage structure, which affects associated ecosystem functioning. The pervasive Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, has been shown to affect the diversity and composition of many host ecosystems. We

Unravelling Marine Benthic Functioning Shifts Under Ocean Acidification

open access: yesEcology Letters, Volume 29, Issue 4, April 2026.
Ocean acidification is reshaping temperate shallow marine benthic communities and the way they function. Using community transplants at natural CO2 vents, we show that biodiversity loss under declining pH reduces biomass and calcification, while enhancing photosynthesis and nutrient uptake.

Autophagy in Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Mass mortality outbreaks of Pacific oysters, Crassostrea gigas, are reported in different areas around the world affecting seriously the shellfish aquaculture sector. Two pathogens are associated with these mortality outbreaks, ostreid herpesvirus 1 (OsHV-1) and Vibrio aestuarianus.

Alien species alert: Crassostrea gigas (Pacific oyster) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas, Thunberg, 1793) is one of 20 species in the genus Crassostrea. Although native to the Japan/Korea region, C. gigas is a hardy species that has been introduced to a number of countries worldwide, including the US, Canada, the UK, France, Korea, China, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and South America, mainly ...

Descriptive Sensory Characterization of Raw Atlantic Salmon and Pacific Bluefin Tuna Sashimi

open access: yesJournal of Sensory Studies, Volume 41, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Establishing standardized sensory lexicons for raw fish sashimi is critical for seafood quality evaluation and sensory research. In this study, we developed descriptive sensory lexicons for raw Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and Pacific bluefin tuna (Thunnus orientalis) using descriptive sensory analysis.

Comparative analysis of morphology, growth performance and gonadal development between the hybrid crab (Scylla serrata ♀ × S. paramamosian ♂) and S. serrata

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 57, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract Interspecific hybridization, through integrating genetic resources across distinct species, serves as a pivotal strategy for improving yield, stress resistance, and quality in aquacultural species. To evaluate the performance of hybrid crab (Scylla serrata ♀ × S.

Shell‐Dense Island Off Culasawani, Vanua Levu Island, Fiji: Midden or Muddle?

open access: yesGeoarchaeology, Volume 41, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
ABSTRACT Investigations of a 3000 m2 shell‐dense island surrounded by mangroves off the coast of Culasawani, a very lightly inhabited part of northern Vanua Levu Island in Fiji, suggest it is likely to be a ‘midden island’ rather than a (tsunami) wave deposit.

Wild populations of Pacific oysters (Magallana gigas) emerge during the blob heatwave in south Puget Sound, Washington USA

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Marine heatwaves have altered ecosystems globally, including changing community composition and facilitating the spread of invasive species. In south Puget Sound, Washington (USA), non-native Pacific oysters (Magallana gigas) have been farmed extensively
