How the packet length distribution influences the packet loss rate in an optical packet switch
Advanced Int'l Conference on Telecommunications and Int'l Conference on Internet and Web Applications and Services (AICT-ICIW'06), 2006Optical Packet Switching (OPS) has emerged as a promising candidate for the future all-optical core network. A crucial issue in such networks is how the packet length distribution (PLD) influences the performance under different traffic scenarios. In this paper we investigate how a deterministic, empirical and exponential PLD influences the Packet Loss

Stabilization of uncertain systems with finite data rates and Markovian packet losses
2013 European Control Conference (ECC), 2013This research addresses stabilization of uncertain systems over data rate constrained and lossy channels. While many of the existing works assume that the packet loss process is independent and identically distributed, we model it as a two-state Markov chain, which can deal with more practical situations including bursty dropouts.

Packet loss rate differentiation in slotted optical packet switched networks
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2005This letter presents a packet loss rate (PLR) differentiation scheme suitable for slotted optical packet switched networks. An analytical model of the proposed scheme is presented and expressions for the PLRs are derived for a multiclass scenario. We also show that the use of the proposed scheme does not result in any reductions in the average switch ...

Packet loss rate estimation in a packet switched voice cellular network
Second International Conference on 3G Mobile Communication Technologies (3G 2001), 2001In this paper two analytical methods for the fast calculation of the packet loss probability in voice cellular networks are provided. Packet loss has significant impact on voice quality and therefore is an important factor (together with co-channel interference) in capacity dimensioning in wireless networks.

Spectral analysis of packet loss rate at statistic multiplexer for multimedia services
[Conference Record] GLOBECOM '92 - Communications for Global Users: IEEE, 1994Uses the well known technique of power spectral representation to characterize the second order statistics of packet loss during congestion at a statistical multiplexer. Unlike the steady state statistics, the second order statistics measures the time correlation behavior of loss.

Packet Loss Rate Prediction Using the Sparse Basis Prediction Model
IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, 2007The quality of multimedia communicated through the Internet is highly sensitive to packet loss. In this letter, we develop a time-series prediction model for the end-to-end packet loss rate (PLR). The estimate of the PLR is needed in several transmission control mechanisms such as the TCP-friendly congestion control mechanism for UDP traffic.

Statistical Evaluation of TCP Packet Loss Rate Estimation
6th Asia-Pacific Symposium on Information and Telecommunication Technologies, 2005Packet sampling techniques have recently attracted much attention as a solution to the traffic measurement in high-speed networks, where large processing cost is incurred when monitoring the behaviors of a large number of sessions. We have proposed a method for estimating TCP packet loss rate from sampled packets and have evaluated the method through ...

Analysis of Average Packet Loss Rate in Multi-Hop Broadcast for VANETs
IEEE Communications Letters, 2018Multi-hop relay can effectively improve the average packet loss rate (PLR) of vehicular ad hoc networks within a particular zone of interest. Challenges arise from analyzing the average PLR affected by distributed relay selections, which depend on the mobility of vehicles, the wireless channel conditions, and media access control (MAC). In this letter,
