ICMP NetFlow Records Based Packet Loss Rate Estimation
2018 Eighth International Conference on Instrumentation & Measurement, Computer, Communication and Control (IMCCC), 2018Since introduced by Cisco in 2004, NetFlow plays a more and more important role in network measurement. In this paper, we introduce a flow-based passive measurement method, using bidirectional NetFlow records data to estimate network packet loss. We tested the algorithm in real environment and found that the effect of the algorithm has exceeded our ...

On packet loss rates in modern 802.11 networks
IEEE INFOCOM 2017 - IEEE Conference on Computer Communications, 2017The knowledge of link packet loss rates (PLRs) at different PHY layer configurations is vital for a number of wireless network optimization schemes. However, the very large number of PHY layer configurations offered by modern 802.11 n/ac networks has made probing-based PLR estimation at each available configuration extremely challenging. In this paper,

Packet Loss Rate Prediction Using the Sparse Basis Prediction Model
IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, 2007The quality of multimedia communicated through the Internet is highly sensitive to packet loss. In this letter, we develop a time-series prediction model for the end-to-end packet loss rate (PLR). The estimate of the PLR is needed in several transmission control mechanisms such as the TCP-friendly congestion control mechanism for UDP traffic.

Packet loss rate differentiation in slotted optical packet switched networks
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2005This letter presents a packet loss rate (PLR) differentiation scheme suitable for slotted optical packet switched networks. An analytical model of the proposed scheme is presented and expressions for the PLRs are derived for a multiclass scenario. We also show that the use of the proposed scheme does not result in any reductions in the average switch ...

Statistical Evaluation of TCP Packet Loss Rate Estimation
6th Asia-Pacific Symposium on Information and Telecommunication Technologies, 2005Packet sampling techniques have recently attracted much attention as a solution to the traffic measurement in high-speed networks, where large processing cost is incurred when monitoring the behaviors of a large number of sessions. We have proposed a method for estimating TCP packet loss rate from sampled packets and have evaluated the method through ...

Dynamic partial buffer sharing scheme: proportional packet loss rate
International Conference on Communication Technology Proceedings, 2003. ICCT 2003., 2004In this paper, we propose a new packet loss control mechanism - dynamic partial buffer sharing scheme. With DPBS scheme, the thresholds are dynamically adjusted in run-time based on packet loss behavior. So that DPBS scheme avoids parameter-setting problem, and it can achieve desired relative packet loss ratio easily.

Load Balancing Algorithm Based on Predictive Packet Loss Rate
2008 Second International Symposium on Intelligent Information Technology Application, 2008We proposed a new load balancing mechanism, called PPLR (predictive packet loss rate), by which flow can be divided into packets and each of the packets be transferred on an individual basis to the destination through multipath. Load balancing is needed in many fields; however, current approaches have problems such as lacking of preparing for sudden ...

Packet loss rate estimation in a packet switched voice cellular network
Second International Conference on 3G Mobile Communication Technologies (3G 2001), 2001In this paper two analytical methods for the fast calculation of the packet loss probability in voice cellular networks are provided. Packet loss has significant impact on voice quality and therefore is an important factor (together with co-channel interference) in capacity dimensioning in wireless networks.

A Compensatory Packet Dropping Routine for Proportional Loss Rate Differentiation
IEICE Transactions on Communications, 2007Service differentiation is one of the key issues in the current Internet. In this paper, we focus on a recent proposal for proportional loss rate differentiation which employs a single FIFO queue, an AQM algorithm for computing the packet drop probability, and a counter-based packet dropping routine for achieving the intended proportional loss rate ...

Packet loss rate prediction using a universal indicator of traffic
ICC 2001. IEEE International Conference on Communications. Conference Record (Cat. No.01CH37240), 2002In a multimedia environment, prediction of the quality of service plays an important role in formulating traffic control functions. We discuss a new approach in predicting the packet (or cell) loss rate as the quality of service of interest. While the approach does not rely on an assumption of a statistical model for the traffic patterns, it closely ...
