Neste trabalho e proposta a sinonimizacao de Paepalanthus spirifer Silveira em P. polyanthus (Bong.) Kunth. P. spirifer e conhecida apenas por seu holotipo, coletaclo na Serra do Cipo, MG. Sua caracterizacao esta associada especialmente a presenca de folhas dispostas em duas espirais e 3 lobos no tubo da corola da flor estaminada.
