PAH-pools in soils along a PAH-deposition gradient
Environmental Pollution, 1996The objectives of this study are to characterize different PAH-pools (soil horizons, microsites influenced by stem flow, aggregate core and surface fractions, particle size fractions) in soils affected by depositions. Three forest soils affected by the emissions of an aluminium plant near Ziar/Central Slovakia were sampled to analyze 20 PAHs.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are known as one of the ubiquitous environmental pollutants caused by unavoidable combustion of by-products. Despite decades of research on adverse health effects towards humans, the effects of PAHs and their hydroxylated metabolites (OH-PAHs) on UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs) remain unclear.

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs)*
2005Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are lipophilic chemicals that are normally formed as by-products of fossil fuel combustion and residues of coal processing. They are ubiquitous as contaminants from petroleum and coal utilization and are of environmental and occupational health concern because of their toxic, mutagenic, and carcinogenic properties.
