Benzoyl‐Xanthenoxanthenes: Versatile Chromophores for Light‐Engaging Applications

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Oxidatively stable benzoyl‐fused peri‐xanthenoxanthene ribbons with NIR emission were synthesized. Their good spectral overlap enabled cascaded Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) antennae in a nematic liquid crystal phase, achieving directional energy transfer.

From planes to bowls: photodissociation of the bisanthenequinone cation

open access: yes, 2018
We present a combined experimental and theoretical study of the photodissociation of the bisanthenequinone (C28H12O2) cation, Bq+. The experiments show that, upon photolysis, the Bq+ cation does not dehydrogenate, but instead fragments through the ...

PAHs in protoplanetary disks: emission and X-ray destruction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We study the PAH emission from protoplanetary disks. First, we discuss the dependence of the PAH band ratios on the hardness of the absorbed photons and the temperature of the stars.

Interstellar and Circumstellar PAHs [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 2000
ISO has shown that the mid–IR spectra of almost all sources are dominated by narrow emission features collectively known as the UIR bands. These bands are carried by a family of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon molecules containing about 50 C-atoms. Other classes of molecules such as C-chains as well as non-aromatic groups attached to the PAHs are much ...

Smart Nanoparticles Disrupting Energy Supply through Triple Mechanisms to Kill Tumors via Dual Disruption of Mitochondria and Lysosomes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces a biomimetic nanoplatform (MTCA@C) designed for precise cancer therapy. It targets mitochondria to induce dysfunction through photodynamic activation, while concurrently blocking mitophagy via lysosomal alkalinization. The platform further triggers methuosis, resulting in tumor cell death through vacuolization and energy pathway ...

Mapping PAH sizes in NGC 7023 with SOFIA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
NGC 7023 is a well-studied reflection nebula, which shows strong emission from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) molecules in the form of aromatic infrared bands (AIBs). The spectral variations of the AIBs in this region are connected to the chemical

From the Gut to the Brain: Microplastic‐Associated Neurovascular Dysfunction and Implications for Stroke Risk

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chronic oral exposure to microplastics may disrupt gut microbiota homeostasis and intestinal barrier integrity, potentially engaging the gut–brain axis and systemic inflammatory responses. These alterations may be associated with impaired blood–brain barrier function, cerebral microvascular dysfunction, and enhanced endothelial inflammation, pro ...

Efficient calculation of van der Waals dispersion coefficients with time-dependent density functional theory in real time: application to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

open access: yes, 2007
The van der Waals dispersion coefficients of a set of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, ranging in size from the single-cycle benzene to circumovalene (C66H20), are calculated with a real-time propagation approach to time-dependent density functional ...
