Photo‐Biomodulation of the Hippocampus Using Near‐Infrared Laser to Enhance Cognitive Function in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Here a transcranial photo‐biomodulation approach is developed using near‐infrared (NIR) laser on hippocampus of mice, revealing significant improvements in learning and memory ability of mice under normal and disease conditions. The improvement results from the high‐density cell‐induced NIR local energy deposition, neuronal activation, and axonogenesis

Postoperative pain management in children: A survey of practices of pediatric surgeons in Nigeria

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Sciences, 2017
Background: Postoperative pain has a negative effect on the process of recovery. There is paucity of literature on the postoperative pain management practice in children in developing countries.

Conditional and marginal relative risk parameters for a class of recursive regression graph models [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
In linear regression modelling the distortion of effects after marginalizing over variables of the conditioning set has been widely studied in several contexts. For Gaussian variables, the relationship between marginal and partial regression coefficients is well-established and the issue is often addressed as a result of W. G. Cochran.

Enhancing Tendon Regeneration: Investigating the Impact of Topography on the Secretome of Adipose‐Derived Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The impact of topography on the secretome of adipose‐derived stem cells (ADSCs) has the potential for promoting tendon regeneration. The secretome generated from ADSCs on aligned structure has a potent effect in promoting cell migration, proliferation, tenogenic differentiation, macrophage M2 polarization, and tendon mechanical function recovery ...

Manipulation of Oxygen Tension in Damaged Regions via Hypoxia‐Induced IPN Hydrogel Microspheres for Intervertebral Disc Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel interpenetrating network hydrogel microsphere (NSC‐Exos@HIMS) is developed to manipulate oxygen tension in damaged regions and recruit endogenous stem cells. In vitro and in vivo results show that NSC‐Exos@HIMS maintains the hypoxia microenvironment for up to 5 days, which triggers nucleus pulposus cell‐like differentiation and enhanced ECM ...

A Quest for the Structure of Intra- and Postoperative Surgical Team Networks: Does the Small World Property Evolve over Time? [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
We examined the structure of intra- and postoperative case-collaboration networks among the surgical service providers in a quaternary-care academic medical center, using retrospective electronic medical record (EMR) data. We also analyzed the evolution of the network properties over time, as changes in nodes and edges can affect the network structure.

Synergistic Modulating of Mitochondrial Transfer and Immune Microenvironment to Attenuate Discogenic Pain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Gallic acid (GA) and copper ions self‐assemble to form nanoparticles, which are then modified with mitochondrial targeting peptides and gap junction modulator. These nanoparticles scavenge mitochondrial reactive oxygen species to induce M2 polarization and enhance intercellular mitochondrial transfer.

Interference of Postoperative Pain on Women's daily Life after Early Discharge from Cardiac Surgery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Women report more postoperative pain and problems performing domestic activities than men in the first month of recovery after cardiac surgery. The purpose of this article is to describe how women rate and describe pain interference with daily life ...
