Pairing of fermions in atomic traps and nuclei

open access: yes, 2003
Pairing gaps for fermionic atoms in harmonic oscillator traps are calculated for a wide range of interaction strengths and particle number, and compared to pairing in nuclei.

DNA-pairing and annealing processes in homologous recombination and homology-directed repair.

open access: yesCold Spring Harbor Perspectives in Biology, 2015
The formation of heteroduplex DNA is a central step in the exchange of DNA sequences via homologous recombination, and in the accurate repair of broken chromosomes via homology-directed repair pathways.

In vivo evidence for glycyl radical insertion into a catalytically inactive variant of pyruvate formate‐lyase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Dimeric pyruvate formate‐lyase cleaves pyruvate using a radical‐based mechanism. G734 serves as a radical storage location, and the radical is transferred to the catalytic C419 residue. Mutation of the C418‐C419 pair causes loss of enzyme activity, but does not impede radical introduction onto G734. Therefore, cis‐ but not trans‐radical transfer occurs

d-wave pairing symmetry in cuprate superconductors

open access: yes, 2000
Phase-sensitive tests of pairing symmetry have provided strong evidence for predominantly d-wave pairing symmetry in both hole- and electron-doped high-Tc cuprate superconductors.

Evolutionary interplay between viruses and R‐loops

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses interact with specialized nucleic acid structures called R‐loops to influence host transcription, epigenetic states, latency, and immune evasion. This Perspective examines the roles of R‐loops in viral replication, integration, and silencing, and how viruses co‐opt or avoid these structures.

Circulating histones as clinical biomarkers in critically ill conditions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circulating histones are emerging as promising biomarkers in critical illness due to their diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic potential. Detection methods such as ELISA and mass spectrometry provide reliable approaches for quantifying histone levels in plasma samples.

Quantum-critical superconductivity in underdoped cuprates

open access: yes, 2001
We argue that the pseudogap phase may be an attribute of the non-BCS pairing of quantum-critical, diffusive fermions near the antiferromagnetic quantum critical point. We derive and solve a set of three coupled Eliashberg-type equations for spin-mediated

Insights into pegRNA design from editing of the cardiomyopathy‐associated phospholamban R14del mutation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how prime editing guide RNA (pegRNA) secondary structure and reverse transcriptase template length affect prime editing efficiency in correcting the phospholamban R14del cardiomyopathy‐associated mutation. Insights support the design of structurally optimized enhanced pegRNAs for precise gene therapy.

Effect of pairing on one- and two-nucleon transfer below the Coulomb barrier: a time-dependent microscopic description

open access: yes, 2012
The effect of pairing correlation on transfer reaction below the Coulomb barrier is investigated qualitatively and quantitatively using a simplified version of the Time-Dependent Hartree-Fock + BCS approach.

Separated-pair approximation and separated-pair pair-density functional theory

open access: yesChemical Science, 2016
Here we present the separated-pair approximation for wave function theory and show that it performs almost as well as the more demanding complete active space approximation. We show that the combination of an SP wave function with an on-top density functional yields comparable accuracy to CASPT2 at a small fraction of the cost.
