Lipid Biomarker Record Documents Hydroclimatic Variability of the Mississippi River Basin During the Common Era

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 47, Issue 12, 28 June 2020., 2020
Abstract Floods and droughts in the Mississippi River basin are perennial hazards that cause severe economic disruption. Here we develop and analyze a new lipid biomarker record from Horseshoe Lake (Illinois, USA) to evaluate the climatic conditions associated with hydroclimatic extremes that occurred in this region over the last 1,800 years.

A 1300 year reconstruction of paleofloods using oxbow lake sediments in temperate southwestern Québec, Canada [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The study of paleofloods provides important information on past flood frequency and intensity for regions where there is a paucity of records, it therefore extends our knowledge of flood occurrence beyond the historical record.

Fluvial geomorphology and paleofloods in arid central Australia

open access: yes, 1998
This thesis examines the fluvial geomorphology of the Todd River(9,300 km2) in arid central Australia. It describes the morphology, motphostratigraphy, dimentary characteristics and chronology of the modern flood plain and paleoflood complexes, and ...

Incorporating alluvial hydrogeomorphic complexities into paleoflood hydrology, magnitude estimation and flood frequency analysis, Tennessee River, Alabama

open access: yes, 2022
Extreme floods are underrepresented in stream gauge records. Sedimentological evidence of past floods (paleofloods) yields longer records, allowing extreme floods to be examined over several Holocene climate periods.

Coupling Waterlogging Hazard Assessment Based on SWMM–LISFLOOD Simulation in Chaoyang River Basin of Nanning, China

open access: yesJournal of Flood Risk Management, Volume 19, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Urban stormwater waterlogging poses significant threats to public safety and property, making scientific and effective risk management a crucial element in China's whole‐area sponge city construction. This study evaluates waterlogging hazards in Nanning's Chaoyang River Basin using a SWMM–LISFLOOD coupled model to simulate 11 design storm ...

Bayesian MCMC flood frequency analysis with reconstructed paleofloods

open access: yes, 2018
PosterInternational audienceThe choice of an acceptable and cost-effective solution for the design of hydraulic structures depends upon the estimation of quantiles for different characteristics of floods, usually peak flows.

Sedimentary records of palaeohydrological variability during the Late Holocene in the Lower Narmada Basin, western India

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 1, February 2026.
Late Holocene palaeohydrological changes in the lower Narmada Basin, India, revealed using multiproxy analyses of the Orsang River terrace sediments. Distinct depositional phases corresponding to global climatic events were recorded. High‐magnitude floods in the Narmada River during the MWP, and within the tributary Orsang River during DACP and LIA ...

Cave Dripwater Magnetic Minerals Record Seasonal Rainfall Variability: New Insights From a 5‐Years Field Monitoring in Central China

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 26, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Stalagmites provide an invaluable archive at high‐resolution for paleoclimate studies. However, it is challenging to extract independent hydroclimate signals from stalagmites due to the scarcity of reliable hydrological proxies. Although the magnetic parameters of stalagmites have shown great potential in recording regional hydrological ...

Sedimentary Records of Paleoflood Events in the Desert Section of the Upper Yellow River Since the Late Quaternary

open access: yesAtmosphere
The frequency and intensity of paleofloods reveal long-term hydrological changes and their responses to regional climate variations. This study focuses on sediment core HDZ04 from the desert section of the upper Yellow River, analyzing sediment grain ...
