Mid‐Miocene paleoproductivity in the Atlantic Ocean and implications for the global carbon cycle [PDF]

open access: yesPaleoceanography, 2009
A prominent, middle Miocene (17.5–13.5 Ma) carbon isotope excursion ubiquitously recorded in carbonate sediments has been attributed to enhanced marine productivity and sequestration of 13 C depleted organic carbon in marine sediments or enhanced carbon burial in peat/lignite deposits on land.

Continental influence on the fertilization of marine waters during the late quaternary in the south of the Brazilian continental margin

open access: yesOcean and Coastal Research, 2022
This study sought to understand the role of continental influence on ocean productivity along the late Quaternary based on the comparison between continental palynomorphs and paleoproductivity proxies from the marine sediment core SIS188. Retrieved from

The use of fish remains in sediments for the reconstruction of paleoproductivity

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2009
The majority of the works concerning fish productivity are based in fish landing records. However, in order to understand the causes of variability in fish productivity (natural and/or anthropogenic) it is essential to have information from periods when human impacts (e.g., fisheries) are considered unimportant.

Controlling factors of organic matter accumulation and lacustrine shale distribution in Lianggaoshan Formation, Sichuan Basin, SW China

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
The lacustrine shale, represented by the Lianggaoshan Formation, is widely distributed in oil and gas basins of China and will be a key target for unconventional hydrocarbon exploration in the future.

Eocene to Miocene U‐Pb Geochronology Evolution of the Rio Grande Rise, Southwestern Atlantic: A Paleoceanographic Approach

open access: yesPaleoceanography and Paleoclimatology, Volume 41, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract The Rio Grande Rise (RGR) is a major submarine feature in the South Atlantic that plays an important role in regional oceanographic dynamics. This study presents new U‐Pb geochronology of sedimentary rocks from the RGR, offering direct age constraints on carbonate and apatite embedded within Fe‐Mn crusts and associated foraminifera fossils ...

Standardized and compiled marine paleoproductivity records across the late Miocene - Pliocene

open access: yes, 2021
This dataset represents a compilation of globally distributed paleoproductivity proxy records, mainly derived from low latitudes. It includes standardized and compiled records of biogenic silica and carbonate mass accumulation rates, as wells as benthic ...

Enrichment Mechanism of Organic Matter in Source Rocks of Mesoproterozoic Changcheng System: A Case Study of Jinshan Rift Trough in Ordos Basin, China

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The development of effective source rocks is key to hydrocarbon accumulation. The Jinshan Rift Trough, located in the Ordos Basin, is generally considered to be a favorable zone for the formation of source rocks in the Mesoproterozoic Changcheng System ...
