Paleostress field reconstruction in the Oslo region
Marine and Petroleum Geology, 2010Abstract The geodynamic history of a region is archived in its geologic record which, in turn, may reflect deformation patterns that causally can be related to certain configurations of paleostresses. In the Oslo Region, the exposed geological record ranges from Precambrian high-grade metamorphic rocks through Cambro-Silurian sedimentary rocks to ...

Microfracturing, paleostress and the growth of faults
Journal of Structural Geology, 1994Abstract We have analyzed the microfractures in samples taken near one thrust fault and five normal faults of known displacement to test the dependence of microfracture density and distribution on fault slip. We have also recorded the orientation of microfractures as a function of distance from the associated fault surface.

Paleostress reconstruction of the southeast Ukrainian Outer Carpathians
International Geology Review, 2021The paleostress analysis of the southeast part of the Ukrainian Outer Carpathians (UOC) was carried out with the separation and stress inversion TR method (TRM).

Finite-element modelling of Tertiary paleostress fields in the eastern part of the Tajo Basin (central Spain) [PDF]
Three subsequent Tertiary paleostress fields that are deduced from fault-slip data for the eastern part of the Tajo Basin are analyzed by finite-element studies. The modelling results show that maximum horizontal stresses (SHmax) are mainly controlled by

Bedding tilt test for paleostress analysis
Journal of Structural Geology, 2005It is difficult to apply stress inversion to fault-slip data obtained from highly tilted sedimentary layers, especially in areas where criteria for fault sorting are not available at outcrops. This paper shows that a bedding tilt test similar to that used in paleomagnetism allows paleostresses to be inferred.

Six hundred fault slip data have provided robust paleostress fields within an approximately 35 km3 volume of Paleoproterozoic (1.9 Ga) rocks in the southwestern Fennoscandian Shield, Forsmark, Sweden.

Paleostresses associated with faults of large offset
Journal of Structural Geology, 1991Abstract In order to test empirically the limitations of paleostress analysis, we used Etchecopar's computer program to compute the orientations and relative magnitudes of paleostress principal values in two southern Appalachian (U.S.A) thrust zones from minor fault and slickenside attitudes.

Paleostress determination in a rock by a fractographic method
Journal of Structural Geology, 1988Abstract A fractographic technique, hitherto used in ceramics for the evaluation of fracture stress, is adapted here to calculate fracture paleostresses in rocks. An example from a granite in East Sinai is analyzed. The results obtained for the ranges of local paleofracture stress, the severest flaw size and the initial stress intensity factor agree ...

Gulf of Aqaba Paleostresses status and rifting events
GEO 2008, 2008Natural fractures and faults are the primary pathways for hydrocarbon migration along with production in many reservoirs. In addition, critically stressed faults (pre-existing faults active in the present stress field) can systematically control permeability, and hence high fluid flow.
