Repair by recombination of DNA containing a palindromic sequence [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, 1997
We report here that homologous recombination functions are required for the viability of Escherichia coli cells maintaining a 240 bp chromosomal inverted repeat (palindromic) sequence. Wild‐type cells can successfully replicate this palindrome but recA, recB or recC mutants carrying the palindrome are unviable.

Palindrome-mediated Translocations in Humans: A New Mechanistic Model for Gross Chromosomal Rearrangements

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2016
Palindromic DNA sequences, which can form secondary structures, are widely distributed in the human genome. Although the nature of the secondary structure—single-stranded hairpin or double-stranded cruciform—has been extensively investigated in vitro ...

Palindromic Decompositions with Gaps and Errors

open access: yes, 2017
Identifying palindromes in sequences has been an interesting line of research in combinatorics on words and also in computational biology, after the discovery of the relation of palindromes in the DNA sequence with the HIV virus. Efficient algorithms for

Comparative next-generation sequencing of adeno-associated virus inverted terminal repeats

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2014
The inverted terminal repeats (ITRs) of adeno-associated virus (AAV) are notoriously difficult to sequence owing to their high GC-content (70%) and palindromic sequences that result in the formation of a very stable, 125 bp long, T-shaped hairpin ...

Palindromic closures using multiple antimorphisms

open access: yes, 2013
Generalized pseudostandard word $\bf u$, as introduced in 2006 by de Luca and De Luca, is given by a directive sequence of letters from an alphabet ${\cal A}$ and by a directive sequence of involutory antimorphisms acting on ${\cal A}^*$.

Discrete Painlevé equations from Y-systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We consider T-systems and Y-systems arising from cluster mutations applied to quivers that have the property of being periodic under a sequence of mutations.

A method to find palindromes in nucleic acid sequences [PDF]

open access: yesBioinformation, 2013
Various types of sequences in the human genome are known to play important roles in different aspects of genomic functioning. Among these sequences, palindromic nucleic acid sequences are one such type that have been studied in detail and found to influence a wide variety of genomic characteristics.

An algorithm to find all palindromic sequences in proteins [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biosciences, 2013
A palindrome is a set of characters that reads the same forwards and backwards. Since the discovery of palindromic peptide sequences two decades ago, little effort has been made to understand its structural, functional and evolutionary significance.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...
