Basal lignified star-shaped cavity in oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.): early development in nursery and consequences for BSR control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The existence of a high lignified star-shaped cavity at the base of the bole, or more precisely at the root - bole interface, has been clearly identified for the first time.

Flexible Pressure Sensor With Multi‐Stage Microdome Structure Enabling Ultra‐Wide Linear Range and High Sensitivity for Wearable Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An MXene‐based flexible piezoresistive sensor featuring a multi‐stage microdome architecture is developed, which simultaneously realizes high sensitivity of 11.57 kPa−1 and an ultra‐broad detection range up to 2500 kPa. When integrated into palm and sole sensor arrays combined with deep learning algorithms, it achieves a recognition accuracy of over 95%

A Big Data Approach for the Regional-Scale Spatial Pattern Analysis of Amazonian Palm Locations

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Arecaceae (palms) are an important resource for indigenous communities as well as fauna populations across Amazonia. Understanding the spatial patterns and the environmental factors that determine the habitats of palms is of considerable interest to ...

Plant functional constraints on foliar N:P ratios in a tropical forest landscape [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Although large scale analyses of foliar N:P ratios suggest and overall pattern of P limitation in tropical forests, analyses within the biome are less indicative of a consistent pattern of nutrient limitation.

Engineering a Virus‐Derived X Family DNA Polymerase FvPolX for de novo DNA Synthesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, a Faustovirus‐derived polymerase (FvPolX) is engineered based on structural and sequence analysis of PolX enzymes. The optimal mutants demonstrate substantially enhanced catalytic activity toward dNTPs and 3′‐ONH2‐dNTPs compared to the wild‐type enzyme.

Bioinspired Morphology‐Decoupled Soft Gripper with Enhanced Bidirectional Grasping Capability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by biological predation, a novel gripper decouples cross‐modal grasping via dual morphological configurations. Synergistically integrating hybrid rigid and soft coupled fingers with a metamaterial palm, the system performs active compliant grasping for static objects and passive cage capture for dynamic targets.

Palmitic Acid Promotes Antiviral Innate Immunity via ZDHHC20‐Mediated CMPK2 Palmitoylation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Metabolites have important functions in innate immune activation and regulation. Wang et al. uncover metabolic regulation of antiviral immunity through CMPK2 palmitoylation, which regulates CMPK2 mitochondrial localization and is promoted by ZDHHC20 but reversed by PPT1, inhibition of which antagonizes viral infection in mice.
