Assessing Thermal Maturity of the Pendência Formation (Potiguar Basin) Using Vitrinite Reflectance and Raman Spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, Volume 56, Issue 11, Page 1203-1214, November 2025.
Palynofacies assemblages from the onshore Potiguar Basin display a wide thermal maturity range, with vitrinite reflectance (%Ro) values of 0.46–2.72 measured from nine samples at depths of 1059–4443 m. A strong correlation exists between %Ro and Raman parameters, specifically the G‐band's full width at half maximum.

Palynofacies Analyses of Fox Bay Formation (Devonian), Falkland Islands

open access: yesAnuário do Instituto de Geociências - UFRJ, 2019
The Falkland Islands are an archipelago consisting two main islands (West and East) that show contrasts in their sedimentary history. The palynofacies analysis was applied as tool for reconstructing the history of sedimentary organic matter deposition during the Devonian.

Palynofacies, environments, and climate changes in the Magdalena River Basin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
ABSTRACTFour environments (swamp, shallow lake, alluvial flood plain, and lagoon) from the Lower Magdalena River Basin were studied for palynofacies’ quantitative characterization. Each environment has been described based on four criteria: palynomorph assemblage, organic matter concentration, organic matter palynological composition, and organic ...

Multi‐Parameter Investigation of Cretaceous to Palaeocene Sedimentary Sequences in the Anambra and Niger Delta Basins, Nigeria: Organic Matter Characterisation, Palynofacies and Implications for Palaeoclimate and Sea‐Level Changes

open access: yesGeological Journal, Volume 60, Issue 1, Page 196-222, January 2025.
The study examines Cretaceous to Palaeogene sedimentary sequences in the Anambra Basin, part of West African rift basins, utilising geochemical and palynological interpretations to understand organic matter accumulation. Palynofacies and geochemical data indicate a predominantly warm and humid tropical climate during a time of widespread marine ...

The palynofacies pattern for the Lower Cretaceous of central Poland

open access: yesGeological Quarterly, 2012
Sedimentary environments and palynofacies were identified in the Lower Cretaceous of central Poland. The study was based on lithological observations, sedimentological logging and palynological investigations in the following boreholes: Poddebice PIG2, Kolo IG3 and IG4, Wągrowiec IG1, Sarnow IG1, Ciechocinek IG3, Mszczonow IG1, Korabiewice PIG1 ...

Evolution and architecture of an exhumed ocean‐facing coarse‐grained submarine canyon fill, Baja California, Mexico

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 72, Issue 1, Page 189-226, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Present day submarine canyons are active conduits for the transfer of large volumes of sediment, carbon and pollutants from continents to oceans. However, the evolution of submarine canyons over geological timescales remains poorly understood due to their erosional nature and low preservation potential. The Late Cretaceous Punta Baja Formation

Foraminiferal and Palynological Records of an Abrupt Environmental Change at the Badenian/Sarmatian Boundary (Middle Miocene): A Case Study in Northeastern Central Paratethys

open access: yesGeosciences
The Badenian/Sarmatian boundary in the Central Paratethyan basins is characterised by a change from open marine conditions during the late Badenian to the assumed brackish conditions during the early Sarmatian. The foraminiferal and palynological results

Integrated organic geochemistry with palynofacies analysis of the Chia Gara Formation in the Kirkuk and Hamrin oilfields, North Iraq [PDF]

open access: yesKirkuk Journal of Science, 2016
The idea of the present work was to combine Rock-Eval pyrolysis and palynofacies analysis in an integrated approach to study 51 source rock cores and cuttings samples collected from the middle Tithonian- Berriasian Chia Gara Formation, in well K-109 ...

Hydrocarbon‐derived thrombolites from the Outer Carpathians (Lower Cretaceous, Poland)

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 71, Issue 7, Page 2183-2209, December 2024.
Abstract Shallow marine thrombolites from a newly discovered Lower Cretaceous cold seep in the Outer Carpathians (Poland) were analysed in order to untangle the complex sedimentological and biogeochemical processes involved in their formation and their diagenetic modifications.

Palynofacies Analysis and Hydrocarbon Generation Potential of Dokan and Gulneri Formations (Upper Cretaceous) from selected wells in Northern Iraqi Oil Fields [PDF]

open access: yesKirkuk Journal of Science, 2007
Sixty five cutting samples from Dokan and Gulneri Formations in three subsurface sections from Khabbaz, Jambour and Taq-Taq oil fields at Northern Iraq have been selected to be studied optically and analytically from Palynofacies points of view.
