Cucumber Mosaic Virus (CMV) has a small RNA genome that encodes a limited number of proteins, but can infect many plant species, including Arabidopsis thaliana and Nicotiana benthamiana. Virus proteins thus have multiple means of conferring their pathogenicity during the infection process. However, the pathogenic mechanism of CMV remains unclear.
