Characterizing Adolescent Social Media Experiences and Links to Momentary Affect

open access: yesJournal of Adolescence, Volume 97, Issue 7, Page 1722-1737, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Introduction Social media (SM) use is ubiquitous among adolescents, and questions remain regarding the impact of SM on youths’ emotional health. Understanding what adolescents are experiencing on SM is critical for answering these questions.

A Brief Writing Intervention Assists Athletes to Cope With Performance Failures

open access: yesPsyCh Journal, Volume 14, Issue 5, Page 787-798, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Significant performance failures by athletes can have detrimental psychological effects, potentially leading to maladaptive coping mechanisms, performance anxiety, and psychological distress. The current study investigated if a brief writing intervention could combat the negative impact of recalled performance failures in a sample of ...

The Relationship Between Physical Activity and Subjective Well‐Being in College Students Over the Course of a Semester: A Short‐Term Longitudinal Study

open access: yesPsyCh Journal, Volume 14, Issue 5, Page 697-705, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Subjective well‐being is an essential construct in positive psychology and is linked with various physical and mental health outcomes in college students. This study examined the associations between different intensities of physical activity (PA) and multiple dimensions of subjective well‐being at the beginning and end of a semester.

THR1VE!: Randomized controlled trial to reduce diabetes distress in adolescents with type 1 diabetes

open access: yesDiabetic Medicine, Volume 42, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Aims To evaluate the effects of a positive psychology intervention to treat diabetes distress (DD) and improve glycaemic outcomes among adolescents with type 1 diabetes. Methods Adolescents ages 13–17 with elevated DD and their caregivers from 2 sites (n = 198 dyads) were randomized to receive enhanced usual care (Diabetes Education) or a ...

Stimulating the Stimulated Cortex—Frontocortical Anodal Electric Stimulation Combined With Closed‐Loop Acoustic Stimulation During Sleep Impairs Memory in Subjects With High Cognitive Ability

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 62, Issue 7, October 2025.
Can responsiveness to closed‐loop acoustic stimulation (CLAS) be modulated by anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (AmodCLAS) during sleep? Such induced differences in excitability may partially explain variability in CLAS efficacy. AmodCLAS affected offline detected slow oscillations, reduced sleep efficiency, and REM sleep.

Lactate Transport via Glial MCT1 and Neuronal MCT2 Is Not Required for Synchronized Synaptic Transmission in Hippocampal Slices Supplied With Glucose

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 169, Issue 10, October 2025.
Lactate has been hypothesized to represent an important energy source during brain activation. Here, we explored both lactate production and lactate transport across cell membranes in hippocampal slices that expressed natural neurotransmission reflected by fast neural network oscillations. Our data suggest that lactate is produced in hippocampal tissue,

NREM Sleep Oscillations Are Associated With Anxiety and Negative Affect in Young Adults

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 34, Issue 5, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Non‐rapid eye movement sleep (NREM) oscillations are critical for cognitive and affective processing. While several studies link anxiety and depression symptoms to sleep quality, a critical gap remains in elucidating the role of NREM physiology in sleep‐dependent processing of affect and anxiety symptoms. The goals of the present study were to

Steroid anabolic and catabolic hormones in highly and recreationally trained female athletes across the menstrual cycle

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 13, Issue 19, October 2025.
Abstract Sex hormone fluctuations across the normal menstrual cycle (NMC) may affect women's performance and health, but literature is sparse on the estradiol (E2) impact on anabolic and catabolic hormones and well‐being in female athletes. We therefore measured in 21 NMC anaerobically trained female athletes: 12 highly (HT) and nine recreationally (RT)
