Psychological intervention improves quality of life in patients with early-stage cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials

open access: yesScientific Reports
The effectiveness of psychological interventions (PI) for malignant diseases is controversial. We aimed to investigate the effect of PI on survival and quality of life (QoL) in patients with cancer.

Plasma lipidomic and metabolomic profiles in high‐grade glioma patients before and after 72‐h presurgery water‐only fasting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Presurgery 72‐h fasting in GB patients leads to adaptations of plasma lipids and polar metabolites. Fasting reduces lysophosphatidylcholines and increases free fatty acids, shifts triglycerides toward long‐chain TGs and increases branched‐chain amino acids, alpha aminobutyric acid, and uric acid.

Comparisons of oral, intestinal, and pancreatic bacterial microbiomes in patients with pancreatic cancer and other gastrointestinal diseases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Background: Oral microbiota is believed to play important roles in systemic diseases, including cancer. Methods: We collected oral samples (tongue, buccal, supragingival, and saliva) and pancreatic tissue or intestinal samples from 52 subjects, and ...

The roles and applications of extracellular vesicles in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are minute versions of cells limited by a lipid bilayer containing cytoplasm from the cell that releases them, but without a nucleus and thus unable to self‐reproduce. EVs contain multiple molecules (proteins, lipids, glycans, and nucleic acids) they can induce complex responses in cells.

Pancreatic Evaluation in Dogs using Different Ultrasonographic Techniques – Preliminary Results

open access: yesActa Veterinaria, 2020
The aim of this study is to describe the preliminary results on the accuracy of ultrasonographic techniques such as elastography, contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and Doppler in determining pancreatic changes. Twenty-five dogs, males and females, aged

Analysis of urinary potassium isotopes and association with pancreatic health: healthy, diabetic and cancerous states [PDF]

open access: yes
Background: More than 700 million people worldwide suffer from diseases of the pancreas, such as diabetes, pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer. Often dysregulation of potassium (K+) channels, co-transporters and pumps can promote development and ...

Exome sequencing identifies nonsegregating nonsense ATM and PALB2 variants in familial pancreatic cancer. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We sequenced 11 germline exomes from five families with familial pancreatic cancer (FPC). One proband had a germline nonsense variant in ATM with somatic loss of the variant allele. Another proband had a nonsense variant in PALB2 with somatic loss of the

Highly multiplexed digital PCR assay for simultaneous quantification of variant allele frequencies and copy number alterations of KRAS and GNAS in pancreatic cancer precursors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining melting curve analysis enhances the multiplexing capability of digital PCR. Here, we developed a 14‐plex assay to simultaneously measure single nucleotide mutations and amplifications of KRAS and GNAS, which are common driver genes in pancreatic cancer precursors. This assay accurately quantified variant allele frequencies in clinical samples

Clinical Analysis of Sinistral Portal Hypertension [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Medical Sciences
Background: Sinistral portal hypertension (SPH) is the only type of portal hypertension that is entirely curable. However, it can easily cause varicose veins in the esophagus and/or stomach, as well as upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage.
