Copulation behaviour of the osprey Pandion haliaetus

Animal Behaviour, 1988
Abstract Copulation patterns in the osprey, based on an exceptionally complete data set, are described. Ospreys copulated frequently, on average 160 times per cluth (range: 88–338), but only 39% of copulations resulted in cloacal contact. Pairs averaged 59 successful copulations per clutch, starting 14 days before, and peaking in the few days before ...

Diet of the Osprey Pandion haliaetus in Inland Japan

Ornithological Science, 2020
The Osprey Pandion haliaetus has recently been found in inland areas of Japan, but its diet there is not well understood. In this study, CCD cameras were used to monitor Osprey two nests in Iwate Prefecture during the 2017 breeding season. Both pairs (one nesting near a reservoir, one by a river) consumed introduced fish species, notably Largemouth ...

Diet of the Osprey Pandion haliaetus in Finland

Ornis Scandinavica, 1978
The diet of the Osprey was studied in two areas of Finland in 1972-74 by analyzing food remains and carcasses found at nests. A total of 914 prey specimens were detected in 47 nests; they were all fish. Abramis fish (mainly bream, A. brama) were the most common prey both in central Finland and on the southwestern coast of Finland, and made up 63% and ...

Growth and Behaviour of Young Ospreys Pandion haliaetus

Oikos, 1977
The growth rate (K) of young ospreys Pandion haliaetus L. as described by a logistic equation is 0.12; the average length of time required to grow from 10 to 90 % of the asymptotic weight is 36.7 d. There is an inverse relationship between brood size and the fledging weight of the chicks.
