Lupus erythematosus panniculitis with morphea-like lesions

A 22-year-old female with morphea-like lesions, deep subcutaneous nodules and lipoatrophic areas of the skin on lateral aspects of the upper arms, on the breasts and on the buttocks is described. In 1990 a biopsy specimen obtained from a subcutaneous nodule showed hyaline necrosis of fat tissue; there were no epidermal changes.

Lupus erythematosus profundus (panniculitis) is a rare clinical variant of lupus erythematosus. It has not been implicated previously as a cause of lid edema or proptosis. In this report, three patients who had eyelid edema as the initial manifestation of lupus erythematosus profundus are presented.

A 39 year-old man developed on trunk, buttock and thighs scaling, atrophic, erythematous lesions which in some places became infiltrated and ulcerated. The clinical, histopathological and immunlogical picture corresponded with the diagnosis of discoid lupus erythematosus.

Subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma misdiagnosed as lupus erythematosus panniculitis

We report a case of subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma (SPTCL), associated with macrophage activation syndrome, mimicking a lupus erythematosus panniculitis (LEP). A 29-year-old woman presented with high fever, general malaise, nausea, vomiting, and subcutaneous nodules and ulcerating lesions located on the lower extremities.

Lupus erythematosus panniculitis of the breast

A case of a patient presenting disseminated lupus erythematosus (DLE) with panniculitis located in the breast is described. The mammographic appearance of the calcifications found in this case is highly suggestive of panniculitis. It was previously described with other systemic diseases and Weber-Christian disease, but not with LE panniculitis.

Lupus panniculitis is a rare variant of cutaneous lupus erythematosus. Two typical cases demonstrate the association of lupus panniculitis with signs of discoid lupus erythematosus and systemic lupus erythematosus. Clinically it is characterised by subcutaneous nodules or plaques, which may ulcerate leaving depressed atrophic scars.

Lupus profundus je zriedkavá choroba. Vyskytuje sa samostatne alebo zriedkavo aj spolu s diskoidným alebo systémovým lupus erythemtosus. Vo väčšine prípadov postihuje táto choroba ženy vo veku 30—60 rokov. V podkožnom tukovom tkanive sa objavia bolestivé, modrasté uzlíky veľkosti 1—2 cm.
