Proteome‐Wide 4‐Hydroxy‐2‐Nonenal Signature of Oxidative Stress in the Marine Invasive Tunicate Botryllus schlosseri

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The ascidian Boytryllus schlosseri is a marine chordate that thrives under conditions of anthropogenic climate change. The B. schlosseri expressed proteome contains unusually high levels of proteins adducted with 4‐hydroxy‐2‐nonenal (HNE). HNE represents a prominent posttranslational modification resulting from oxidative stress.

Capacity building needed to reap the benefits of access to biodiversity collections

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Global conservation efforts increasingly depend on digitised natural history collections, yet the benefits of this digital data are not equally shared. We analysed biodiversity specimens and citation data from Montserrat and the Cayman Islands to assess who collected these specimens, how they are used, and by whom.

Leveraging machine learning and citizen science data to describe flowering phenology across South Africa

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Recent shifts in flowering times are an index of, and a response to, human driven climate change. However, most information on these flowering changes is heavily skewed to the northern hemisphere. This imbalance limits our understanding of how climate change is affecting ecosystems, including the mismatches of flowering times between species, increased

Influence of overflooding ratios on fruit damage and population growth of Thaumatotibia leucotreta (Meyrick): implications for the sterile insect technique program

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Number of infested fruits, larval entries and F1 adults decreased as sterile males increased. Control cages had higher fecundity and fertility compared to treatment cages. Release ratios, 40:1 and 60:1 can enhance the efficacy of SIT. Abstract BACKGROUND Thaumatotibia leucotreta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) is a significant pest of citrus in ...

Epidemiology of Monilinia laxa, the causal agent of blossom blight in almond orchards within the Ebro Valley

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Blossom blight caused by Monilinia laxa in almond orchards in the Ebro Valley. Early stages of mummified fruiting structures infected by M. laxa frequently adhered to branches. Later stages of mummified fruiting structures were predominantly on the ground.
