Descriptions of a new species and two new subspecies of the genus Panorpa Linnaeus (Panorpidae: Mecoptera) with unique structures of genital apparatus from Amami Islands, Japan.

Zootaxa
A new scorpionfly, Panorpa pertica sp. nov. is described from the Amami Islands, Japan. This new species is morphologically similar to and has a similar late flight season to Panorpa brevititilana Issiki, 1929 of Taiwan. Panorpa pertica sp. nov. consists

Ultrastructure of the seminal vesicle and sperm storage in Panorpidae (Insecta: Mecoptera)

Micron, 2010
The histology and ultrastructure of the seminal vesicle, male accessory gland and the epididymis in Panorpa and Sinopanorpa were observed using light microscopy and scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The seminal vesicle consists of a mono-layered elongated columnar epithelium, which contains abundant electron-dense granules and secretory ...

Molecular phylogeny of Panorpidae (Insecta: Mecoptera) based on mitochondrial and nuclear genes

Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2015
Panorpidae are the largest family in Mecoptera, covering approximately 70% species of the order. However, the phylogenetic relationship within Panorpidae has not been adequately explored. Here we analyzed the phylogenetic relationships among 70 species of five genera in Panorpidae using maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference based on two ...

New Names in Neopanorpa (Mecoptera: Panorpidae)

Journal of the Kansas Entomological Society, 2008
Abstract Neopanorpa flavoferruginea Byers, new species, from western Java, is described and illustrated. A problem of homonymy is corrected by proposal of a replacement name, Neopanorpa simulans, nomen novum.

The complete mitochondrial genome ofNeopanorpa pulchra(Mecoptera: Panorpidae)

Mitochondrial DNA, 2013
We describe the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Neopanorpa pulchra (Mecoptera: Panorpidae). The sequence has a length of 16,314 bp (GenBank accession number JX569848) and the A + T content is as high as 77.46%. The genome contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes and an A + T-rich region.

Taxonomy of the Panorpa semifasciata group (Mecoptera: Panorpidae: Panorpinae), with descriptions of fourteen new species from China

Annales de la Societe Entomologique de France
Summary Previously, the Panorpa semifasciata group sensu Wang & Hua, 2021 comprised four known species that are endemic to Southwestern China. In this paper, I illustrate and describe 14 new species, increasing the species number of this group to 18. The

Major Predatory Diptera (Panorpida: Antliophora) of India

Indian Journal of Entomology
Predatory Diptera are an ecologically important group crucial to regulating prey populations and maintaining ecosystem balance. Diverse predatory families in Diptera have been documented in India, within which the Asilidae, Dolichopodidae, Empididae, Hybotidae, and a few Scathophagidae are well-represented with predatory adults.

Fine structure of the midgut of Sinopanorpa tincta (Navás) (Mecoptera: Panorpidae)

Tissue and Cell, 2014
Fine structure of the midgut and degeneration of the midgut epithelium of the scorpionfly Sinopanorpa tincta (Navás) adults were investigated using light microscopy and scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The results show that the tubular midgut lacks gastric caeca and is composed of an outer longitudinal and an inner circular muscle layer ...
