Two new species of scorpionflies (Mecoptera: Panorpidae) from Veracruz, Mexico
ZootaxaThe family Panorpidae is composed of approximately 570 species worldwide. The Nearctic region comprises 91 species of Panorpa, of which 34 are distributed in Mexico; however, its richness in Mexico may be underestimated as the group has been poorly ...

Mitochondrial Gene Fragments Suggest Paraphyly of the Genus Panorpa (Mecoptera, Panorpidae)
Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2000Life history studies of scorpionfly species have been used to test predictions of evolutionary theory, but comparative analysis has been hampered by a lacking phylogeny of scorpionflies. We present a molecular phylogeny of selected panorpid scorpionflies inferred from mitochondrial 12S, 16S rRNA, and COI gene fragments, using parsimony and maximum ...

FURTHER EVIDENCE OF PANORPIDAE IN THE AUSTRALIAN TERTIARY (INSECTA: MECOPTERA)
Australian Journal of Entomology, 1967AbstractThe hindwing of Austropanorpa australis Riek is described from the Lower Tertiary Redbank Plains Series. The assignment of the species to the Panorpidae, on venational characters, is confirmed.

Specific genitalic morphology reflects vital sexual functions in insects and examination of genitalic structures is important in understanding copulatory mechanisms. The morphology of male and female genitalia was investigated in the scorpionfly Panorpa jilinensis using light and scanning electron microscopy.

Molecular phylogeny and species delimitation of the genus Dicerapanorpa (Mecoptera: Panorpidae)
Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2019Given that species is the fundamental unit in systematic biology, rigorous species delimitation is crucial for taxonomic studies, yet routine species delimitation remains an ongoing challenge in the taxonomic practice of insects.

Competition and Coexistence among Panorpa Scorpionflies (Mecoptera: Panorpidae)
Ecological Monographs, 1980The ecological and behavioral interactions of adults of nine species of Panorpa scorpionflies were studied during 1971—1974 at eight woodland sites in southeastern Michigan, USA. The species overlap considerably in habitat use, diurnal foraging time and location, and diet. All species inhabit primarily the herb stratum of moist forests.
