Salivary Gland Extract of Kissing Bug, Triatoma lecticularia, Reduces the Severity of Intestinal Inflammation through the Modulation of the Local IL‐6/IL‐10 Axis

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
Triatomines are known for their role as vectors of the causative agent of Chagas disease. The occurrence of an arsenal of molecules in their saliva is able to suppress vertebrate immune responses. Thus, it is reasonable to assume that the presence of molecules with therapeutic potential in their saliva is able to constrain inflammation in immune ...

Alpinia Essential Oils and Their Major Components against Rhodnius nasutus, a Vector of Chagas Disease

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
Species of the genus Alpinia are widely used by the population and have many described biological activities, including activity against insects. In this paper, we describe the bioactivity of the essential oil of two species of Alpinia genus, A. zerumbet and A. vittata, against Rhodnius nasutus, a vector of Chagas disease.

Assessment of the Performance of Indirect Immunofluorescence Assay for Chagas Disease in Dogs Using a Reference Panel of Four Chimeric Proteins

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
We evaluated the performance of an indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) assay for detecting anti‐Trypanosoma cruzi IgG in dogs using four chimeric IBMP antigens and latent class analysis. The IIF assay showed suboptimal sensitivity and overall accuracy compared to ELISA and LCA‐based methods.

Triatomine Fauna and Recent Epidemiological Dynamics of Chagas Disease in an Endemic Area of Northeast Brazil

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
Updated information of the dispersion dynamics of Chagas disease (CD) and a systemic analysis of these data will aid the early identification of areas that are vulnerable to transmission and enable efficient intervention. This work synthesized spatiotemporal information regarding triatomine fauna and analyzed this information in combination with the ...

Biotic Assembly of the Species of Triatomini (Hemiptera: Reduviidae: Triatominae) in the Mexican and South American Transition Zones

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 52, Issue 10, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim To infer the biogeographic history of the Triatomini by evaluating how their species became part of the biogeographic transition zones of the New World. This group of blood‐feeding insects includes key vectors of Chagas disease. Understanding their dispersal and diversification over geological time may help elucidate the temporal dynamics ...

New Scenarios of Chagas Disease Transmission in Northern Colombia

open access: yesJournal of Parasitology Research, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
Chagas disease (CD) is a systemic parasitic infection caused by the flagellated form of Trypanosoma cruzi. Córdoba department, located in the Colombian Caribbean Coast, was not considered as a region at risk of T. cruzi transmission. In this article, we describe the first acute CD case in Salitral village in Sahagún, Córdoba, confirmed by microscopy ...
