Isolation and molecular characterization of a major hemolymph serpin from the triatomine, Panstrongylus megistus. [PDF]

open access: goldParasit Vectors, 2014
Chagas disease kills 2.5 thousand people per year of 15 million persons infected in Latin America. The disease is caused by the protozoan, Trypanosome cruzi, and vectored by triatomine insects, including Panstrongylus megistus, an important vector in Brazil.

Host Availability Limits Population Density of Panstrongylus Megistus

open access: greenAmerican Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1983
In order to determine whether host availability limits triatomine population growth, 5th-stage Panstrongylus megistus were maintained in feeding chambers containing 0, 1, 2, or 3 mice. During the 5-day feeding period, triatomines exposed to two or three mice gained significantly more weight than did bugs exposed to one mouse.

A Deep Insight Into the Sialotranscriptome of the Chagas Disease Vector, Panstrongylus megistus (Hemiptera: Heteroptera). [PDF]

open access: bronzeJ Med Entomol, 2015
Saliva of blood-sucking arthropods contains a complex cocktail of pharmacologically active compounds that assists feeding by counteracting their hosts' hemostatic and inflammatory reactions. Panstrongylus megistus (Burmeister) is an important vector of Chagas disease in South America, but despite its importance there is only one salivary protein ...

The hemocytes of Panstrogyllus Megistus (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) Os hemócitos de Panstrongylus megistus (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) [PDF]

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1987
Five hemocyte types were identified in the hemolymph of Panstrongylus megistus by phase contrast and common light microscopy using some histochemical methods. These are: Prohemocytes, small cells presenting a great nucleus/cytoplasm ratio; Plasmatocytes,

Patterns of antenal sensilla of Panstrongylus megistus from three Brazilian states [PDF]

open access: yesMemórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2005
The objective of the present study was to analyze and describe the phenotype of the antennal sensilla of Panstrongylus megistus, one of the epidemiologically most important species of triatomines in Brazil.

Ultrastructural studies of the hemocytes of Panstrongylus megistus (Hemiptera: Reduvidae) Ultra-estrutura dos hemócitos de Panstrongylus megistus (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) [PDF]

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1989
Ultrastructural analyses revealed the presence of six hemocyte types in the hemolymph of Panstrogylus megistus, partially confirming our previous results obtained through light microscopy. Prohemocytes: small, round hemocytes with a thin cytoplasm layer,

alpha-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase activity in flight muscles of triatomine bugs Panstrongylus megistus and Triatoma sordida [PDF]

open access: diamondMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2000
The alpha-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase (alpha-GPDH) activity in flight muscles of Panstrongylus megistus and Triatoma sordida, vectors of Chagas disease in Brazil, was studied.

Triatoma infestans is more efficient than Panstrongylus megistus in obtaining blood meals on non Anaesthetized mice [PDF]

open access: diamondMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1995
We compared the influence of the bug density in the capacity of Triatoma infestans and Panstrongylus megistus in obtaining blood meal in non anaesthetized mice. The regression anlysis for increase in body weight (mg) versus density (no.
