Abstract Panther 5 is a 5% cobalt, high-carbon, high-vanadium, tungsten high-speed steel. Because of its excellent red hardness, higher cutting speeds can be used with Panther 5 than with the regular high-speed steels. Heat treating Panther 5 to its maximum hardness will provide long tool life.
