Power quality phenomena in electrified railways: Conventional and new trends in power quality improvement toward public power systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Nowadays, railway electrification is the most efficient way to power the trains. However, power quality (PQ) phenomena toward public power systems (PPSs) have always a main concern to the railway operators, especially when the single phase traction power

Availability Evaluation of Overhead Contact Lines Based on a Stochastic Colored Petri Nets Model

open access: yesIET Electrical Systems in Transportation, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Due to their nonbackup characteristics and constant exposure to outdoor conditions, the performance of overhead contact lines (OCLs) will gradually degrade over time and further result in equipment defects or frequent failures. These issues significantly impact system availability and incur substantial repair costs.

Study on electric spark discharge between pantograph and catenary in electrified railway

open access: yesIET Electrical Systems in Transportation, 2022
The electric spark caused by pantograph‐catenary (PC) electrical contact failure happens frequently, it is a kind of arcing phenomenon which can severely affect the current collection of PC. The theoretical analysis and modelling of PC electric spark are

Modular and Transformable Six‐Legged Robot: Mathematical Modeling

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
A transformable limb system is a single‐degree‐of‐freedom linkage connecting three legs of a hexapod, comprising two identical three‐legged platforms. These legs are based on the Peaucellier–Lipkin mechanism. The group of legs attached to the same platform adjusts its movement based on the all‐or‐nothing postures of the transformable limb system.

Research Progress and Prospects on Pantograph-Catenary Arcing in Urban Rail Transit

open access: yesChengshi guidao jiaotong yanjiu
[Objective] Pantograph-catenary (PC) arcing degrades the train current collection quality, causes ablation of pantograph carbon strips and contact wires, and consequently affects safety and stability of train operation.

A New Contactless Fault Diagnosis Approach for Pantograph-Catenary System Using Pattern Recognition and Image Processing Methods

open access: yesAdvances in Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2014
Comfort and safety of railway transport has become more important as train speeds continue to increase. In electrified railways, the electrical current of the train is produced by the sliding contact between the pantograph and catenary. The quality of
