Panton-Valentine leukocidin: raising practitioner awareness
British Journal of Community Nursing, 2007Media reports have focused recently on methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Panton-Valentine leukocidin is a toxin carried by MRSA. With reported increases in community acquired MRSA, This article seeks to raise practitioner awareness of this toxin and it’s effects on dermal tissue. A case study and anecdotal evidence is given.

Panton-Valentine leukocidin-positive osteoarticular infections
Médecine et Santé Tropicales, 2015The aim of our study was to evaluate the frequency of osteoarticular infections with Panton-Valentine leukocidin-positive (PVL) Staphylococcus aureus (PVL-SA) among patients admitted to the orthopedic ward at the Sahloul University Hospital (Sousse, Tunisia) and to study the characteristics of these strains and patients. We conducted a retrospective ...

Staphylococcal Leukocidin, Panton-Valentine Type
Journal of Toxicology: Toxin Reviews, 1985AbstractThe Panton-Valentine leukocidin produced by most strains of S. aureus attacks polymorphonuclear leukocytes and macrophages but not other cell types. The toxin, discovered by van de Velde in 1894, was distinguished clearly from leukocyte-damaging hemolysins by the studies of Panton and Valentine. Purified for the first time by Woodin in 1960, it

Gene sequences and specific detection for Panton-Valentine leukocidin
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2005A new category of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), called community-acquired MRSA (CA-MRSA), has emerged worldwide. In contrast to previous MRSA, most CA-MRSA carries the Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) genes (lukPVSF) as a virulence genetic trait.

Staphylococcus aureus Panton-Valentine Leukocidin Causes Necrotizing Pneumonia
Science, 2007The Staphylococcus aureus Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) is a pore-forming toxin secreted by strains epidemiologically associated with the current outbreak of community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) and with the ...

Brain Abscess due to Panton–Valentine Leukocidin-Positive Staphylococcus aureus
Infection, 2008Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) is a cytotoxin produced by Staphylococcus aureus that exhibits highly specific lytic activity against polymorphonuclear cells, monocytes, and macrophages. A 34-year-old man admitted for right parietal brain abscess and thickened dura mater in close proximity to a lytic bone lesion is presented.
