A Two‐Dimensional Plot of Cell Aggregates and Their Largest Nuclei Distinguishes Benign From Malignant Pleural Effusion Cytology Specimens

open access: yesCytopathology, EarlyView.
Scatter plots from all cases were categorized into four plot types. Cytologically negative cases mainly exhibited Small cluster (S‐type) and Horizontal (H‐type) patterns, whereas cytologically positive cases predominantly showed Vertical (V‐type) and Diagonal (D‐type) patterns.

Application of Testsimplets for classification of sperm morphology [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
Testsimplets is a pre-stained, ready-to-use slides for differential blood cell counts. We have been using this Testsimplets slide to classify sperm morphology since 1978. Its characteristics is that it is very easy to prepare specimens quickly and we can

Suitability of Papanicolaou stain for micronuclei mass screening in buccal smears comparing reference feulgen stain and papanicolaou stain in field

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular and Immuno Oncology, 2018
Background: Micronuclei (MN) assessment so far was done directly, individually, and intra- and, here, inter-observer bias could not be eliminated. It was subjective. Methods: In this study, accurate and reproducible MN counting was facilitated by the use of liquid cytology and image capturing ...

Cytologic Grading of Canine Mammary Tumors by Robinson's System Adapted to Romanowsky‐Type Rapid Staining: Prognostic Implications

open access: yesVeterinary Clinical Pathology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Mammary neoplasms are a major concern in intact female dogs, and cytologic examination is routinely used for initial screening. Although the adaptation of Robinson's cytologic grading system to canine species has been scarcely explored, it shows prognostic potential, particularly when correlated with other clinical and pathologic ...

A cell line derived from BBN (N-butyl-N-[4-hydroxybutyl]-nitrosamine)-induced rat bladder cancer: establishment and scanning electron microscopic cell surface characteristics [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
This research was performed to establish a cell line from experimental bladder tumor and to discuss the biological characteristics of the cell line so established. Tissue cultures of epithelial cells were derived from a rat bladder cancer induced by BBN.

Mitochondrial oxidative stress, calcium and dynamics in cardiac ischaemia‐reperfusion injury

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Heart attack causes ischaemia–reperfusion injury in cardiomyocytes. Mitochondria generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to oxidative stress. High levels of mitochondrial calcium (Ca2+) activate the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP), and excess ROS levels can lower the Ca2+ required to activate the mPTP ...
