The actin cytoskeleton is a target of the self-incompatibility response in Papaver rhoeas [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2003
The integration of signals received by a cell, and their transduction to targets, is essential for all cellular responses. The cytoskeleton has been identified as a major target of signalling cascades in both animal and plant cells. Self-incompatibility (SI) in Papaver rhoeas involves an allele-specific recognition between stigmatic S-proteins and ...

Biocontrol by a native hemiparasite: Rapid suppression of noxious invasive plants in a field experiment

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 12, Page 3514-3524, December 2025.
Melampyrum arvense was demonstrated as a biocontrol tool suitable for containing two harmful invasive species. After the suppression of the invaders, an additional introduction of native species by seeding or green‐hay transfer could facilitate community restoration. Abstract Alien plant invasions are a recognised threat to biodiversity.

A systematic review of natural colourants and trend forecasting practices for the textile and fashion industry

open access: yesColoration Technology, Volume 141, Issue 6, Page 801-827, December 2025.
Abstract Recent global interest in sustainable practices in the textile and fashion industry has inspired stakeholders to readopt natural colourants. However, integrating these practices raises several questions regarding the latest developments in natural colourant and trend forecasting practices in the textile and fashion industry.

Signals and targets of the self-incompatibility response in pollen of Papaver rhoeas [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2003
Self-incompatibility (SI) in Papaver rhoeas involves an allele-specific recognition between stigmatic S-proteins and pollen, resulting in inhibition of incompatible pollen. A picture of some of the signalling events and mechanisms involved in this specific inhibition of pollen tube growth is beginning to be built up.

Year‐Round Evaluation of the Conservation Potential of Seed‐Rich Field Margins Under Agri‐Environmental Schemes for Farmland Birds, European Hares, and Common Hamsters

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 11, November 2025.
Field margins on arable land, such as seed‐rich strips (SRS), are an important and widely implemented conservation measure under agri‐environment schemes. Although SRS are primarily designed to provide critical resources for wildlife during the winter, they may also contribute to biodiversity conservation throughout the year and across the full annual ...

Effects of the Papaver rhoeas L. extract on naloxone-induced jumping behavior and diarrhea in morphine-dependent mice

open access: yesJournal of Medicinal Plants, 2004
The prevalance of opioid addiction is releativly high in Iran. Since the mechanism (s) of opioid addiction are not clear, this social problem still remains unresolved.

The pick of the plot: An evidence‐based approach for selecting and testing suitable plants to use in annual seed mixes to attract insect pollinators

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 7, Issue 6, Page 1739-1754, November 2025.
Concern regarding wild pollinator declines has increased motivation to plant pollinator‐friendly plants in gardens and urban areas, but ‘plants for pollinators’ recommendations are often anecdotal and inaccurate. Here, we use a scientific evidence base to design and test annual flowering seed mixes for bees and hoverflies.

Cucurbit aphid‐borne yellows virus: A growing but overlooked threat to global cucurbit production

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, Volume 187, Issue 3, Page 318-329, November 2025.
Cucurbit aphid‐borne yellows virus (CABYV) presents a significant threat to cucurbit crops worldwide. In this description of a plant virus we review what is currently known about this plant virus. Abstract Cucurbit aphid‐borne yellows virus (CABYV) presents a significant threat to cucurbit crops worldwide.

Secondary Seed Dispersal by Hydrochory During Surface Runoff Inside a Mediterranean Vineyard

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Soil Science, Volume 76, Issue 6, November–December 2025.
ABSTRACT Water circulation within agroecosystems can contribute to the distribution of plant communities by inducing seed dispersal through a process known as hydrochory. As vegetation is currently intensively managed in Mediterranean agroecosystems, relying on seed dispersal to increase vegetation cover and limit soil erosion could be a cost‐effective
