Taxonomy of the Subspecies of Papaver pulvinatum (Papaveraceae)

The taxonomy and geographic distribution of four subspecies of the arctic Siberian taxon Papaver pulvinatum Tolm., viz. subsp. interius, subsp. alexandri V.V. Petrovsky subsp. nova, subsp. tschuktschorum Tolm. subsp. nova, and the autonymous subspecies, are discussed. The name P. pulvinatum subsp. lenaense Tolm.

Meconic acid as a chemotaxonomic marker in the papaveraceae

Abstract Of 48 species of Papaveraceae examined representing 12 genera, 24 were shown to contain meconic acid and of these, 21 were Papaver species. Meconopsis cambrica was also found to contain meconic acid, in contrast to other species of Meconopsis examined.

STOMATA ON THE FRUITS AND SEEDS OF ESCHSCHOLZIA (PAPAVERACEAE)

Stomata are present on the outer and inner fruit walls and seed coats of Eschscholzia californica, E. covillei, E. glyptosperma, E. lemmonii and E. minutiflora. The stomata on the inner fruit wall and seed coat remain constantly open, even under plasmolyzing conditions, whereas those of the outer fruit wall are able to open and close.
