An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Characteristics of Local Anisotropy Fields of Paper Structure and Deformation Properties

open access: yesЛесной журнал
The results of a comparative assessment of the physical and mechanical characteristics of moisture-resistant packaging paper made of bleached softwood and hardwood pulp are presented. Non-destructive and destructive methods have been used to measure 60 g/

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Spectres of Paper: Writing, Digitization, and the End(s) of the Book [PDF]

open access: yesAvant, 2017
This paper has been inspired by Jacques Derrida’s statement revealing that his philosophical writings were mostly devoted to paper. “I have the impression,” he said, “(the impression!—what a word, already) that I have never had any other subject ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Development of Paper Utilizing Miscanthus Pulp Combined with Waste Paper for the Production of Packaging

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Much focus is being dedicated to the development of innovative technologies for producing biodegradable polymers from plant biomass. It is proposed that annual and perennial herbaceous plants, such as miscanthus, be used as promising sources of cellulose.

Micro‐mechanism study on synergistic degradation of the oil‐paper insulation with dibenzyl disulfide, hexadecyl mercaptan and benzothiophene

open access: yesHigh Voltage, 2021
In recent years, there have been many cases of transformer failures caused by corrosive sulfides. At present, research mainly focuses on the single sulfide dibenzyl disulphide, but few research on multiple sulphur or the oil‐paper hybrid insulation.
