Investigating the Performance of Polytetrafluoroethylene and Polyoxymethylene Creasing Rules in the Package Conversion of Coated Paperboard

open access: yesPackaging Technology and Science, EarlyView.
Two sets of creasing tools were designed and machined from polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and polyoxymethylene (POM) in this study to improve the creasability of commercial dispersion‐coated paperboard. Their performance was evaluated by measuring the oil and grease resistance of the samples before and after creasing/folding and comparing the results ...

Anisotropy in Dry‐Type Valve‐Side Bushings of Converter Transformer: Phenomena and Effects

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The safe and stable working of dry‐type valve‐side bushings, important components of converter transformers, is essential. In recent years, poor design has led to several core breakdown, flashover and cracking failures. The bushing cores, composed of crepe paper and aluminium foil, exhibit significant anisotropic physical properties due to its

Flexo‐printable glucomannan‐based biofilm

open access: yesColoration Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract Biofilms were synthesised from glucomannan and xylan. The ratio of glucomannan: xylan varied from 90:10 (g/g) to 70:30 (g/g). Nanofibrillated cellulose was added to enhance the mechanical properties of the biofilms. In another approach, glucomannan/xylan suspensions were crosslinked with tartaric acid (TA) or citric acid (CA).

Standing on a common ground: a comparison of static stability approaches for pallet loading

open access: yesInternational Transactions in Operational Research, EarlyView.
Abstract At the practical level, the static stability constraint is one of the most important constraints in practical pallet loading problems, such as air cargo palletizing. Approaches to modeling static stability, which range from base support and mechanical equilibrium calculations to physical simulation, differ in workflow, focus, and assumptions ...

Finite Element-Based Simulation for Edgewise Compression Behavior of Corrugated Paperboard for Packaging of Agricultural Products

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Since most goods are transported and stored in a unit-load form in today’s global supply chain, there has been a growing concern regarding the compression strength of corrugated paperboard boxes for packaging of agricultural products.

Geography and intra-national home bias : U.S. domestic trade in 1949 and 2007 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper examines home bias in U.S. domestic trade in 1949 and 2007. We use a unique data set of 1949 carload waybill statistics produced by the Interstate Commerce Commission, and 2007 Commodity Flow Survey data.
