Abstract One of the most popular ways to carry out the re-use of wastes from agriculture is the pulping, refining and bleaching of those residues for papermaking. Spain annually produces more than 300 thousand tonnes of Citrus sinensis (orange tree) trimmings, crops being concentrated in the East and the South of the country.

Effect of Acacia Melanoxylon fibre morphology on papermaking potential
2011This paper reports on the relationship between the fibre morphology of six Acacia melanoxylon bleached kraft pulps, produced from wood chips with basic densities of 449, 489, 493, 505, 514 and 616 kg/m3, and their papermaking potential. Six wood samples were selected in order to provide pulps with markedly different fibre morphological properties.

We conducted a series of trials in a commercial-scale pulp mill producing fully bleached birch hardwood kraft pulp to study the effects of impregnation time. Retention time in an impregnation vessel was altered between 5 min and 60 min. Cooking kappa number target and brightness targets were held constant and the rest of the fiber line was operated ...

Fibre Potentials of Spathodea campanulata for Papermaking
Spathodea campanulata is a tree species valued for its aesthetics and medicinal uses. Shortage of wood species for paper production has resulted in the assessment of lesser-used species such as Spathodea campanulata, for the possibility of its use in pulp and paper production.openaire +1 more source
Exploration of Traditional Papermaking by Potential Application of DNA Research
Journal of EthnobiologyPaper and papermaking have been critical tools in the development of information societies throughout history. Despite their significance, the traditional papermaking and its propagation remains uncertain. This study investigates the potential presence of DNA in traditional paper and papermaking processes using DNA extraction and morphological analysis

Pretreatment of hardwood can dissolve some of its hemicellulose, which can be used as a feedstock solution for biofuels and bioproducts within the context of a wood based biorefinery. It is well known that most pretreatment methods accelerate subsequent pulping and bleaching reactions.

Abstract Lime mud from papermaking process (LMP) is a solid waste originated from the causticization process. Due to fine particle size and high alkalinity of LMP, its recovery is expensive and adverse effect is still uncertain. This review presents several current techniques proposed for LMP utilization in order to minimize its toxic effect on the ...
