A Simplified Calculation Method of Length Adjustment of Datum Strand for the Main Cable with Small Sag

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2019
In order to overcome the complicated iterative process of the cable length adjustment based on catenary theory and large error of length adjustment for cable with a small sag based on the parabola theory, this paper firstly develops a direct and simply ...

Grip and Grasp: Lizard Claw Inspired Robotic Manipulators

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Our study identifies the most effective lizard claw shape for use as an end effector in a bioinspired robotic manipulator. By examining key geometric features and combining them into comparative indices, the Crotaphytus collaris claw is found to be the best fit.

Rapid melt/quench furnace using commercially available hardware [PDF]

open access: yes
This report describes an off-the-shelf Orbital Tube Welder that can be easily used to melt and resolidify almost any electrically conductive material. This can be done on a KC-135 Aircraft within the microgravity period of one parabola.

A Plug‐and‐Play Volume Minimizing Micromixer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microscale fluid mixing has numerous applications where rapid and efficient mixing is required, including drug discovery, bio‐analysis and point‐of‐care diagnostics. Conventional soft lithography processes, however, make the integration of robust and reliable mixing difficult to implement in practice, especially across different flow rates ...

La parabola fieristica capodistriana

open access: yesActa Histriae
This essay sheds light on a little-explored chapter of Capodistria’s economic history: the trade fairs, which transformed the city into a commercial crossroads of the Adriatic, between the 14th and 15th centuries, due to the strategic support of Venice ...

Helix Alignment, Chevrons, and Edge Dislocations in Twist‐Bend Ferroelectric Nematics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The recently discovered twist‐bend ferroelectric nematic (NTBF) is the new member of the multiferroic family, representing a fluid with an oblique helicoidal (heliconical) periodic structure of spontaneous electric polarization. The work presents a thorough exploration of the material properties of this phase, how the periodic modulation of ...

Linearizing and Forecasting: A Reservoir Computing Route to Digital Twins of the Brain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A new approach uses simple neural networks to create digital twins of brain activity, capturing how different patterns unfold over time. The method generates and recovers key dynamics even from noisy data. When applied to fMRI, it predicts brain signals and reveals distinctive activity patterns across regions and individuals, opening possibilities for ...
